Even with the Modern Horizons 2 and Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures of the Forgotten Realms delays, there’s more coming for the Historic format.
Historic was introduced for Magic Arena in November 2019 as a format that allowed players to make use of cards that are no longer legal in Standard. While Historic is exclusive to Arena, it’s a great way for players to make use of their growing collection.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Historic has gone from strength to strength with Strixhaven: School of Mages Mystical Archive cards making a notable impact. Wizards of the Coast aren’t done with Historic yet, and are looking to add more cards to the popular format.

Historic Anthology V Coming to Magic Arena on May 27
Announced last night on DailyMTG, Historic Anthology V is the next series in the Anthology series. It’s a way for Wizards of the Coast to add cards to the Arena-exclusive format without going through Standard.
Expected to drop on May 27, Historic Anthology V looks to bring 25 cards into the format. While we don’t know what cards are coming quite yet, it’s sure to make an impact in Historic. Death’s Shadow and Thraben Inspector are making waves since their introduction in Historic Anthology IV back in March.
Revealed so far are Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger which is sure to shake up Brawl in a big way. The legendary Praetor is a nuisance in Commander pods so it won’t be surprising to see the impact in Brawl too. [Tooltips]Whirler Rogue[/Tooltips] will also feature in Historic Anthology which could make a fun pairing with Ephemerate in the format.
Previews are expected to happen over the next few weeks and we’ll bring you updates as and when.
