There are a lot of incredibly cool tribes in MTG. You’ve got Horrors, Dragons, Werewolves, Homonculi, and basically anything else you can dream of.
You’ve also got Humans. While they’re not a very exciting tribe to play as in terms of them being fantastical, it’s hard to deny that they’re fun to use in-game. One Commander in particular really leans into the tribal theme too, so it’s time to chat about Jirina.
Meet your Commander
Jirina Kudro is a four-mana red, white, and black 3/3. They read, When Jirina Kudro enters the battlefield, create a 1/1 white Human Soldier creature token for each time you’ve cast a commander from the command zone this game. Other Humans you control get +2/+0.” In essence, they always bring a friend whenever you cast them, and that friend also happens to be extra powerful.
The aim here is simple then, we’re going for a wide strategy with a lot of Humans. It’s not a complicated strategy, but we can include a few extra wrinkles to it to make sure you can slip damage through. So, let’s dive into one of the fun ways you can build a deck around Jirina Kudro and the army that follows her into battle.

The best Humans
As our aim is to go wide with lots of different creatures, it makes sense to pick up the cards that support that. So, to kick off we have Adeline, Resplendant Cather. Adeline reads, “Adeline, Resplendent Cathar’s power is equal to the number of creatures you control. Whenever you attack, for each opponent, create a 1/1 white Human creature token that’s tapped and attacking that player or a planeswalker they control.” Hanweir Militia Captain fills a similar role too, as when they transform they spit out Human tokens.
You need to make sure that your Humans are a little stronger though, especially as a lot of them may well be 1/1 tokens. Well, Thalia’s Lieutenant comes and puts a +1/+1 counter on your other Human creatures, then they get bigger for each Human that enters the battlefield under your control too.
You’ve also got General Kudro of Drannith, a three-mana 3/3 that gives your other Humans +1/+1, but also allows you to sacrifice two HUmans to destroy large threats. Finally for this section, we’ve got Judith, the Scourge Diva. Judith gives other creatures you control +1/+0, but also makes it so that you can deal damage to things when your creatures die. This feeds into what we’re doing with the support cards.

The best support cards
For our support cards, we’re leaning into some very fun Enchantments. First up is Molten Echoes, which reads, “As Molten Echoes enters the battlefield, choose a creature type. Whenever a nontoken creature of the chosen type enters the battlefield under your control, create a token that’s a copy of that creature. That token gains haste. Exile it at the beginning of the next end step” This really encourages you to just fill your deck with powerful nonlegendary Humans, and there are plenty of those to go around.
The other part of our strategy is pinging people to death as your creatures enter the battlefield and leave the battlefield. As you’re going to be attacking a lot, this shouldn’t be hard to do. For this, you’re going to want Outpost Siege, Bastion of Remembrance, and Impact Tremors. Each of these allows your creatures to deal damage effortlessly.
With all of those in the same deck, you can then fill out the rest with your favorite Humans and tribal cards, and then just laugh as you whittle down the health of everyone who’s not supporting you. Good times!
