Over the last few weeks, Wizards has been slowly drip-feeding us the contents of The Hobbit: A Marvelous Mathoms Secret Lair Superdrop. Today these reveals reached their final chapter, as the last of the five individual drops was unveiled. Featuring a funky art style, Secret Lair x The Hobbit: He Who Walks Unseen certainly looks the part, though the financial value is a lot more dubious.
Secret Lair x The Hobbit: He Who Walks Unseen
In terms of reprint value, He Who Walks Unseen is one of the weaker drops we’ve seen in recent times. The most valuable card here is Windfall at $5, which is hardly exciting for a high point. Solve the Equation and Arcane Heist are almost respectable at $3.90 and $3.70, respectively, but Curiosity and Contentious Plan are essentially bulk at $0.80 and $0.40.
While we’re looking at a dismal $13.80 base value here, there is evidence to suggest that the Secret Lair markup could push this drop higher. Both Solve the Equation and Windfall have prior Secret Lair printings, the former coming in at $5.60 and the latter at $11-27. If we factor these in, this drop could be worth between $21.50 and $37.50, which is much more attractive.
Value aside, all five of these cards are well-used in Commander, with Windfall in particular showing up in a whopping 543,000 decks according to EDHREC. Curiosity and Solve the Equation also do very well, appearing in 220,000 and 153,000 decks, respectively. Even on the low end, Contentious Plan and Arcane Heist are used in 70,000 and 29,500 decks, so there’s plenty of play here.
With so many playable cards in the mix, He Who Walks Unseen could command a surprisingly high value in the long run. It’s also worth noting that this drop will be available exclusively in foil, and at a higher-than-usual price of $59.99. With this version being dubbed the “Out of Sight Edition,” it’s possible this is a unique foiling treatment, but that is unconfirmed.
Seek The Heart
As a final bonus for The Hobbit: A Marvelous Mathoms Superdrop, players will receive a promo Arcane Signet for every $199 they spend while it’s active. We’ve actually seen this card used in the same promo slot before, for the Marvel Superdrop back in 2024. That version currently goes for $31 near-mint, so we can expect a price in that region or better for this stunning new take.
Overall, He Who Walks Unseen is a mixed end to a mixed Superdrop. While there are plenty of playable cards across the five drops, the value is poor in each case, making them dubious purchases unless you enjoy the artwork. As nice as the Arcane Signet promo is, it may not be enough to make this Superdrop a worthwhile purchase for many players.
