With TMNT spoiler season dominating the Magic conversation recently, it’s easy to forget that we have an in-universe set coming in the not-so-distant future. MTG Secrets of Strixhaven, the much-anticipated return to 2021’s magical school expansion, is just a couple of months away at this point. While information about this exciting expansion is thin on the ground right now, there are still some juicy tidbits to be found online. Here’s everything you need to know right here, so you can cram before the big release.
MTG Secrets Of Strixhaven Release Date

MTG Secrets of Strixhaven will be released on April 24th, 2026. This date was announced during the Nuremberg Toy Fair back in January, where we also got the release date for June’s Marvel Super Heroes. Wizards has confirmed that Prerelease events for the set, as usual, will take place a week beforehand, from April 17th-23rd.
These key dates aside, we know very little about the schedule for Secrets of Strixhaven. Spoiler seasons typically conclude a week before Prerelease, so we can expect to see the full set by April 10th. As to when spoilers will start, however, things are less clear. Spoiler seasons for both Lorwyn Eclipsed and TMNT were both a week long, so this could be the case here, too. That said, Lorwyn Eclipsed’s was intended as an experiment, and TMNT’s was almost certainly truncated due to the leaks. Secrets of Strixhaven’s, then, could be a return to a more typical two-week season.
MTG Secrets Of Strixhaven Spoilers

So far, we’ve seen very little in the way of spoilers for MTG Secrets of Strixhaven. In terms of main set cards, just two of them have been revealed to date.
Lorehold, the Historian is a new mythic Elder Dragon, from what will most likely be a cycle. This looks like a promising Commander card and has actually caused some movement on the secondary market already. Mathemagics, unfortunately, is far less exciting. While it’s a flavorful design, it’s also an incredibly inefficient draw spell that seems unlikely to see play.
Interestingly, we’ve actually seen a lot more cards from the Secrets of Strixhaven Commander products so far. All five of the face Commanders from the set’s precon decks have been revealed already. These represent beloved characters from the original Strixhaven set, and they all look fairly powerful, too. Quintorius, History Chaser looks particularly exciting, as a new planeswalker Commander option with serious infinite combo potential.
Official reveals aside, we’ve also seen a couple of leaks for Secrets of Strixhaven. Back in January, a leaked print sheet seemingly revealed two new Commander cards: Prismari Pianist and Renegade Bull. Leaked packaging also revealed the name of the set’s Headliner card, Emeritus of Ideation. We know nothing about this card mechanically so far. We do know that it’ll come in a 500-copy serialized version, however, with art from MTG legend Mark Poole.
MTG Secrets Of Strixhaven Mystical Archive

Excitingly, Wizards has confirmed that MTG Secrets of Strixhaven will bring back the Mystical Archive from the original set. This was one of the most beloved elements of Strixhaven: a bonus sheet of iconic instants and sorceries, with great new artwork, with one guaranteed in every pack.
We’ve only seen one card from the new Archive so far, but already it’s looking great. Stock Up, a near-$10 uncommon, and a staple draw spell in multiple formats, is a fantastic start for the sheet. Japanese packaging for the set hints at a possible Jeska’s Will reprint, too, which would add an excellent $40 card to the mix. The first time around, the Mystical Archive included bangers like Demonic Tutor and Teferi’s Protection, so we can expect a few heavy hitters like this on the full sheet.
As before, one Mystical Archive card will be included in every Secrets of Strixhaven Play Booster pack. There will also be Japanese versions of each card, with alternate artwork, available exclusively in Japanese Play Boosters or English Collector Boosters. This time around, there will also be Silver Scroll foil versions of the Japanese Mystical Archive cards available. Details on these are limited at present, but they appear to be rare Collector Booster exclusives based on the packaging leaks.
MTG Secrets Of Strixhaven Commander Decks

At the Nuremberg Toy Fair, we got to see the packaging for all five MTG Secrets of Strixhaven Commander precons, as well as their face Commanders. There’s one precon for each of Strixhaven’s schools, so Boros, Izzet, Simic, Golgari, and Orzhov are all getting represented here.

MTG Secrets Of Strixhaven Novel

After a long hiatus, dedicated set tie-in novels are making a comeback for MTG Secrets of Strixhaven. A brand-new novel, titled Omens of Chaos, will be released in April. This comes via Seanan McGuire, New York Times bestselling YA/Fantasy author. McGuire has also written extensively for MTG in the past, with stories dating back as far as 2021’s Innistrad: Midnight Hunt.
Omens of Chaos was initially slated for a February release, but according to McGuire, it was pushed back due to unexpectedly high demand. If this demand is reflected in the final sales, we could well see novels return as a regular fixture for MTG sets.
In any case, Omens of Chaos is exciting for more than just its written content. The hardcover first edition printing of the novel will also come bundled with a very nice Command Tower promo. While this isn’t exactly the spiciest promo pick, the Retro Frame and exclusive artwork could make it quite desirable, and pricey, indeed.
MTG Secrets Of Strixhaven Products

In addition to the usual Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, and Commander precons, MTG Secrets of Strixhaven will also feature some additional products for players to enjoy.
For starters, like Lorwyn Eclipsed, this set will come with a corresponding Draft Night product. This will include 12 Secrets of Strixhaven Play Boosters, 90 basic lands, and a Secrets of Strixhaven Collector Booster. MSRP on this, as with the Lorwyn Eclipsed version, is $89.99.
There will also be two different Bundles available for Secrets of Strixhaven. The regular Bundle will feature nine Play Boosters, an as-yet-unrevealed Promo card, and a spindown D20 for an MSRP of $57.99. If you’re feeling fancier, you’ll also be able to grab the Codex Bundle for the set.
For an $89.99 MSRP, this comes with six Play Boosters, two Collector Boosters, 20 foil basic lands, a spindown D20, and a special ‘Codex Booster.’ Codex Boosters are similar to what we saw in the Avatar Commander Bundle, featuring two randomly-selected cards from a pool of six. In this case, the pool includes foil alternate-art versions of Sol Ring and the five enemy-color Talismans.
