Pride month is underway, and Wizards of the Coast is making sure to show their support for the LGBTQ community in a number of ways. Back in February, Wizards announced the return of a cool Commander event with a unique twist: during the event, all Commanders have Partner! Players can participate at their local game store from June 27-29 and receive a Chromatic Lantern promo for their troubles.
Now, Wizards has also announced a handful of charity products. With each purchase, Wizards has agreed to donate to one of a couple different LGBTQ organizations and charity partners. Let’s dive in and take a closer look at what sweet items are available for purchase.
Playmats and Shirts
The first group of Magic Pride-themed products available for purchase are shirts and playmats. There are two unique design choices for both the shirts and the playmats.
The first option is dubbed Dungeons and Dragons. Showcasing a d20 at the center of the artwork and an array of vibrant, colorful patterns in the background, this choice is sure to be a hit with Magic and Dnd enthusiasts alike.
The second design portrays the same artwork as the aforementioned Chromatic Lantern promo. Niko Aris, one of MTG’s prominent nonbinary characters, is shown at the forefront of the image.
Both the shirts and playmats featuring these designs will go on sale from June 16 to July 31 at MTGProShop.com. For other Pride-themed accessories from previous years, you can check out all the goodies here.
Wizards announced that as part of the sale, a portion of the product price from the merch sales will be donated to a local, Seattle-based LGBTQ organization. This charity partner has not yet been announced, but more information will be made available when the sale starts one week from today.
Dice and Holders
In addition to playmats and shirts, Wizards of the Coast has also revealed new dice and dice holders available for purchase. For this endeavor, Wizards has partnered with Sirius Dice.
These dice, in particular, boast the Pride Progress flag. With each purchase, $5 will be donated to the Trevor Project, a non-profit organization that offers a variety of resources to the LGBTQ community. You can find more information about The Trevor Project here.
Anyone interested in picking up the Progress Pride dice should also look into picking up a Progress Pride flag d20 holder. This item does a great job protecting your Dungeons and Dragons dice while helping ensure they don’t get lost.
For this product, $28 of every sale will be donated to The Trevor Project. Currently, you can find both the Progress Pride dice collection and the Progress Pride flag d20 holder at siriusdice.com. These are evergreen products, though, so you’ll be able to find them at participating local game stores while supplies last.
Other Initiatives
Beyond the charity efforts, Wizards of the Coast has announced a handful of other initiatives during Pride month. First, at MagicCon: Las Vegas, Wizards is announcing the debut of The Gathering Grounds. This space is designed to celebrate marginalized communities, and is open for all con attendees to participate in.
Those who attend MagicCon: Las Vegas will have the opportunity to partake in the Magic Presents: Pride event (the classic Commander event where all Commanders have Partner) a week ahead of schedule. All participants will receive the previously mentioned Chromatic Lantern promo, too, while supplies last.
For those who enjoy following the lore behind our beloved game, a new series of audiobooks is in the making. These stories aim to highlight various LGBTQ characters who have helped shape the world of Magic we know today. Four new audiobooks, along with some republished stories featuring LGBTQ characters, will become available in the coming weeks. You can find more information about that here.
Finally, on June 29, Wizards will be joining the Seattle Pride Parade, too, something they have done in years past and feel very strongly about.
This year’s Pride celebration will be bigger and better than ever. Make sure to mark your calendars for any upcoming sales and events of interest.
