Strixhaven: School of Mages is set to release for tabletop next week, but before its official release date, players can play with the brand new Magic: The Gathering cards in Magic: The Gathering Arena, Magic Online, and tabletop Prerelease events this coming weekend. While most local stores will not be launching any in-store events due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, At-Home and Webcam Prerelease events will be available, and players will be able to purchase a Prerelease Pack representing one of the five colleges of Strixhaven University.
Today, MTG senior designer Gavin Verhey has released a Strixhaven: School of Mages Prerelease guide as well as a new episode of Good Morning Magic! that players new to Prerelease events and Sealed format may want to watch.
“While traditionally Prereleases are run as in-store events, players can pick up Prerelease Packs and take them home in light of COVID-19. In fact, we recommend it,” Verhey said in an article published on Wizards of the Coast’s website. “In different areas of the world, different rules and restrictions may apply to what can be open—so please take appropriate precautions, be aware of government-level requests, and do only what you feel comfortable with.”
As you probably know by now, Strixhaven is themed around five colleges, each representing a color pair: Lorehold (white/red), Prismari (red/blue), Quandrix (blue/green), Witherbloom (green/black), and Silverquill (black/white). Here are the five Prerelease Packs players can choose from:
Lorehold Prerelease Pack
Prismari Prerelesase Pack
Quandrix Prerelease Pack
Witherbloom Prerelease Pack
Silverquill Prerelease Pack
It would be exciting to participate in an in-store Prerelease event for Strixhaven, but sadly, it looks like most regions will not offer that opportunity due to restrictions. Players who participated in Ravnica or Return to Ravnica block sets would know how fun it is to choose a Prerelease Pack representing your favorite color pair.
