Thanks to the lifting of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions around the world, more Magic: The Gathering fans are returning to their local game stores to play their favorite card game. WIzards of the Coast just announced that in-store play for Canada will return on August 6, and fans will have more chances to get new promos from their local game stores.
Wizards of the Coast has also revealed five new foil retro-frame Magic: The Gathering participation promo cards coming with the release of Innistrad: Midnight Hunt (the first of the two Innistrad sets coming this year) this September.
The five new retro foil participation promos are Aven Mindcensor, Dig Through Time, Bolas’s Citadel, Goblin Guide, and Scavenging Ooze. Local game stores will be handing out these promos to participants in their events. Only one promo will be given for each event entry.
According to the WPN, the store’s quantity of each of these five promos will equal the number of Fabled Passage promos they receive.
I think these retro foil versions of these viable Magic cards look fantastic, and I’m sure many Commander players would be motivated to join more events in their local game stores to acquire these promos.
In addition to these promos, WPN stores will also be giving out Innistrad: Midnight Hunt promos, but we’ll have to a few more weeks to find out what they are.
Innistrad: Midnight Hunt is scheduled to release for tabletop on September 24, and Innistrad: Crimson Vow will be released on November 19. Expect them to be released a week earlier digitally on MTG Arena and Magic Online.
