WOTC Reveals Exciting New Planeswalker Commander From Upcoming Set!

Article at a Glance

Wizards of the Coast revealed several new Magic cards in a sneak peek of Commander Legends: Battle for Baulder’s Gate. This is another D&D-inspired set, similar to Adventures in the Forgotten Realms. From the initial previews, some familiar faces are back, like the classic D&D duo, Minsc & Boo.

In their first MTG appearance, Minsc & Boo took the form of a legendary creature card. Minsc made Boo, a legendary Hamster token with trample and haste. And the Beloved Ranger had the ability to manipulate the power and toughness of your other creatures.

Minsc & Boo return in Baulder’s Gate but look very different. Check them out:

Minsc & Boo, Timeless Heroes

The new incarnation of Minsc & Boo has a similar skill set compared to the original, but this time Minsc is a planeswalker that can be used as your commander!

Minsc still makes a legendary Boo creature token, but his time, instead of a one-shot effect, he makes the token when he enters the battlefield and on each of your upkeeps. The recurring Hamster token works as great protection for your commander.

Minsc’s +1 ability once again manipulates the power and toughness of your creatures, but this time does so with +1/+1 counters.

The most exciting part about the new planeswalker is definitely his -2 ability. It serves as both removal and card draw!

Brewing with Minsc & Boo in Commander

Minsc & Boo, Timeless Heroes, looks like a typical red and green stompy card, focused on playing big, trampling creatures that eat large chunks of your opponents’ life totals at a time.

If I were to build around Minsc & Boo, I’d focus on making the most out of the planeswalker’s -2 loyalty ability by buffing my Hamster token, sacrificing it, and drawing tons of cards.

You could also tinker with a +1/+1 counter theme which works perfectly with Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty‘s new mechanic, modified.

Here are a few cards you’ll likely want to include if you want to play Minsc & Boo, Timeless Heroes, in Commander.
