As of yesterday, the spoiler season for Spider-Man officially concluded with some spicy new reveals. While there are some new Secret Lair drops on the horizon, players can now properly start brewing ahead of the set’s release. That said, while we’ve seen all the new cards, it appears Wizards of the Coast isn’t entirely done revealing things.
Today, in a new article on Where to Play Marvel’s Spider-Man, Wizards revealed seven Spider-Man promos. While we have seen a couple of these before, there’s plenty of new art and new details to go over. As usual, some of these promos may end up being surprisingly pricy, so they’re well worth looking out for.
Spider-Ham, Peter Porker
This Spider-Ham, Peter Porker promo was almost incredibly expensive. The first chance to get this promo is as a participation reward in a Commander Box League. Running from September 19th to 25th, this might not sound like a massive hurdle, but this isn’t a cheap event. Since you crack into an entire Spider-Man Play Booster Box, event entry could cost $180+.
Thankfully, this event won’t be the only opportunity to get your hands on this Spider-Ham, Peter Porker promo. From September 26th to November 11th, Two-Headed Giant Commander Nights will also have this as a promo. Once again, this will be a participation promo too, so you don’t even have to win the match.
Due to this second event, it’s unlikely that the price of Spider-Ham, Peter Porker, will be too obscene. There should be some demand for it since it’ll likely be fairly popular in Commander, but I wouldn’t expect those prices to be ridiculous.
J. Jonah Jamerson
Officially revealed by Wizards of the Coast ahead of Spider-Man’s spoiler season starting, we’ve seen this card for a while now. Since August 23rd, we’ve known it’ll be available to attendees at MagicCon: Atlanta, which begins on September 26th. Unfortunately, while it sounds like this promo could be rather exclusive, I wouldn’t have high hopes for its price.
Looking back at MagicCon: Chicago, the last MagicCon promo was Avacyn’s Pilgrim. Seeing a strong amount of Commander play, there’s definitely demand for this card, and the completely textless artwork is rather fetching. Despite these strong selling points, combined with theoretical rarity, copies only sell for $1.40.
With this in mind, J. Jonah Jamerson may end up being similarly cheap, or even more so, honestly. Unlike Avacyn’s Pilgrim, J. Jonah Jamerson doesn’t look like a hugely competitive card, so demand may be rather weak. Still, this promo should end up being slightly more expensive than regular variants of the card, although I wouldn’t expect there much either. This will likely only be expensive if Spider-Man collectors make the demand for J. Jonah Jamerson much higher than expected.
Mary Jane Watson
Out of all the recently revealed promos, Mary Jane Watson could end up being the most surprising. In theory, this card is rather accessible, since anyone who purchases a product during Magic Academy events will get a copy. While this seems rather straightforward, it’s currently unclear how widespread Magic Academy events will be, which could limit supply.
Scarcity aside, it’s also worth noting that the unique art on this promo appears to be a strong selling point. On Reddit, MTG players are already praising the artwork by Paolo Rivera, preferring it to the card’s usual art. In theory, this could drive the price up significantly; however, that remains to be seen.
Notably, like all the new promos revealed today, only traditional foil variants of Mary Jane Watson will be available. In Mary Jane’s case, this detail is unlikely to affect the promo’s price, since she doesn’t appear to be competitively viable.
Ultimate Green Goblin
If you love to Draft, Ultimate Green Goblin will be the Spider-Man promo for you. Traditional foil copies of this promo will be available during Magic Presents: Your Friendly Neighborhood Draft events from September 26th to November 11th. Notably, if you want this promo, you’ll have to go undefeated for the entire event, which could take some doing.
Currently, it’s unclear how widely distributed this Ultimate Green Goblin will be. Bigger stores and events could easily have multiple players going undefeated, so supply could be rather generous. Coupled with the fact that the Friendly Neighborhood Draft is available for two weeks, prices might not be too bad.
While the supply of this Spider-Man promo is currently unknown, there’s a good chance Ultimate Green Goblin could be expensive anyway. From the looks of things, this card could have potential in Standard and definitely in Commander. As a result, there could be a fair bit of demand driving prices up, especially around release.
Carnage, Crimson Chaos
Thanks to a leak back in late July, we’ve already seen this Spider-Man promo before. While we’ve known this promo is coming for some time, we didn’t know how you’d get it. Now, Wizards has cleared up this confusion, as Carnage, Crimson Chaos has been revealed as the next Standard Showdown promo.
To get your hands on a Carnage, Crimson Chaos promo, you’ll need to win a Standard Showdown event between September 26th and November 11th. Currently, it’s unclear just how expensive this new promo might be, as past Standard Showdown promos are rather unique. Since Bloomburrow back in 2024, Standard Showdown promos have all been Cowboy Bebop themed, giving them extra value.
Before that, Sarkhan Unbroken was the winner’s promo for Murders at Karlov Manor. Currently, copies of this promo are selling for $32, which is almost double the usual $17 asking price. In theory, this means we can expect the usual price of Carnage, Crimson Chaos to double for this promo, but that’s far from guaranteed.
Spectacular Spider-Man
Out of all the promos on this list, Spectacular Spider-Man is undoubtedly going to be the rarest of the bunch. Available at Magic Spotlight: Spider-Man events, there are only two locations where you can acquire this promo. You’ve either got to be in Baltimore from October 24th to 26th, or in Liverpool from October 31st to November 2nd.
If you attend either of these events, you’ll receive a non-foil version of this Spectacular Spider-Man promo. While this is already fairly exclusive, the real rarity is found in the traditional foil promo variant. This promo will only be given to the top 128 finishers at each tournament. This means that only 256 traditional foil copies of this promo will exist.
While slightly more common than past Magic Spotlight promos, these foils are going to be seriously expensive. Currently, foil copies of the Sword of Forge and Frontier promo, from Magic Spotlight: Dragons, are listed for $500. Even if Spectacular Spider-Man is twice as common, a $250 price tag isn’t bad at all.
The Amazing Spider-Man #1
Last, but by no means least, Wizards has revealed The Amazing Spider-Man #1 as a unique MTG promo. While this may look like the art for Strength of Will, it’s actually a comic, not an MTG card. Sadly, this makes it rather difficult to tell how much this promo will be worth.
While we can’t speak about price, there’s a good chance that this comic will be rather rare. It’s only available from November 1st to 9th during Marvel’s Spider-Man: The Final Battle events. Despite the fancy name, this is just a Standard event, where the promo comic will be awarded to the winner.
