Ultra Exclusive 2000-Card MTG Planeswalker Promo Causes Mass Player Jealousy

Share

It may not seem like it, but there is an incredible amount of extremely limited MTG promos. Magic: The Gathering’s appearances at various cons, for example, routinely get cards with unique artwork. While the original card might be well known and common, some promos are so rare that players barely even know they exist.

For better or worse, could well end up being the case for the new promo for The Eternal Wanderer. With only 2,000 copies of this promo available worldwide, it’s safe to say that it’ll be incredibly scarce. Thanks to this, the card might just be one of the most expensive promos released in 2026.

MTG The Eternal Wanderer

  • Name: The Eternal Wanderer
  • Mana Value: 4WW
  • Card Type Legendary Planeswalker
  • Rarity: Promo
  • Card Text: No more than one creature can attack The Eternal Wanderer each combat.
+1: Exile up to one target artifact or creature. Return that card to the battlefield under its owner’s control at the beginning of that player’s next end step.
0: Create a 2/2 white Samurai creature token with Double Strike
−4: For each player, choose a creature that player controls. Each player sacrifices all creatures they control not chosen this way.

Next in line from MTG Japan’s stunning promo lineup is this gorgeous The Eternal Wanderer reprint. Thankfully, beyond just looking good, this card actually has enough power to make it playable. The static ability alone gives this Planeswalker a lot of survivability on a majority of boards. Considering how powerful her activated abilities are, players will be trying to get rid of The Eternal Wanderer quickly.

Flicking a permanent is already enough of a reason for many Commander decks, like Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines and Phelia, Exuberant Shepherd, to take a shine to this Planeswalker. Able to double up on entry value and put an opponent’s Commander on time out for a turn cycle, this ability alone is already extremely versatile.

Even if there’s nothing for The Eternal Wanderer to do when she enters play, you also have the choice to start pumping out 2/2 tokens with Double Stike. Buff these with some equipment, like Sword of Feast and Famine, and snowballing the game out of control is trivial.

If all of this weren’t enough, The Eternal Wanderer even offers a board wipe on a stick. Wiping the board while keeping your best creature intact, The Eternal Wanderer not only resets the game, but forces your opponents to deal with two massive threats on a relatively empty board.

Thanks to this, despite seeing no competitive play, The Eternal Wanderer sees tons of play in Commander. While she sees a bit more focused play in Superfriends and Blink, this card is strong enough to see play in any white Bracket 3 deck. According to EDHREC, The Eternal Wanderer appears in over 80,000 different Commander decks.

Where to Find it

Combining an extremely powerful Planeswalker with absolutely gorgeous artwork is a proven recipe for success. As a result, many MTG players are extremely interested in acquiring copies of this Eternal Wanderer promo. Sadly, this card will be extremely difficult to acquire outside of Japan. Even in Japan, grabbing this particular promo will be a challenge.

Available from April 17th until June 18th, or when supplies run out, Japanese MTG players who purchase a Play or Collector Booster box will receive one of four Wandering Emperor-themed Commander protector cases at random. There’s a potential random prize in these cases, offering anything from The Wanderer-based sleeves to exclusive signed prints of Wanderer-based artwork. This Wandering Emperor promo is part of the potential prizes you can win, but there are only 2,000 to go around.

Interestingly, this isn’t even the rarest prize available in this promotion. Instead, it’s actually the most common among the four potential prizes. There are only 100 of the exclusive signed Wanderer prints, 300 Wanderer Acrylic Stands, and 600 Wanderer sleeve sets. Due to the rarity and the purchase needed to be eligible, all of these promotional items could easily become extremely expensive.

Sadly, despite many worldwide players wanting a copy for themselves, finding this card outside of someone reselling it will be an impossibility for many. Depending on how much demand there is for this promo, The Wandering Emperor could easily sell for hundreds of dollars, if not thousands. Hopefully, Wizards of the Coast will find a way to make these gorgeous Japanese MTG promos more accessible to the West sometime in the future.
