The Most Expensive Marvel Super Heroes Cards

Share

After an unusually split spoiler season, prerelease events for Marvel Super Heroes are right around the corner. Not only is June 19th the first chance fans will get to play the set, but local games stores can start selling it, too. This means players can start cracking packs en masse, hunting for the best cards from the set.

While Marvel Super Heroes might not be the highest power set in MTG, it still has some fantastic cards. Between insane new Commanders and some constructed gems too, there’s plenty to be excited about. As usual, many of these high-powered cards have some seriously impressive price tags attached, too.

Notably, since Marvel Super Heroes hasn’t officially been released just yet, we’re dealing with pre-sale prices right now. Since these are often incredibly inflated, we’ll be looking at the lowest listings for new cards. Additionally, we’ll only be talking about the non-foil default frame variant of each card, since this is what’s most common in Play Boosters.

Now, with those caveats out of the way, it’s time to get into the prices. Here are the most expensive MTG cards in the Marvel Super Heroes set.

5 | Mjölnir, Hammer of Thor

Mjolnir Hammer of Thor

Price: $16

As our pick for the all-around best card in Marvel Super Heroes, it’s no wonder that Mjölnir, Hammer of Thor is one of the most expensive cards, too. Offering solid removal and damage for equipment-focused decks in Commander, this card has real potential. As if that wasn’t enough, however, getting to discard it for a Pyroclasm effect is a massive upgrade.

Thanks to these abilities combined, Mjölnir, Hammer of Thor will be an auto-include in countless red-aligned Commander decks. At worst, this card is compelling removal, but it could easily double up as a game-ending threat, too. To top it all off, this card even has strong competitive appeal, thanks to Standard-loving low-toughness creatures right now.

While Mjölnir, Hammer of Thor is understandably rather expensive right now, it’s unclear how long this price may last. Not only are we currently dealing with presale prices, but this card has three unique variants, so supply should be somewhat plentiful. Even with that in mind, however, demand for this card is likely to be high, so it’s definitely worth watching.

4 | Tony Stark//The Invincible Iron Man

Tony Stark//The Invincible Iron Man

Price: $17

As one of the most popular characters in the Marvel multiverse, it’s no surprise there’s a lot of hype for Tony Stark. Thanks to this, this Modal Double Faced Card (MDFC) is also one of the most expensive cards in Marvel Super Heroes. Beyond just being a popular character, however, Tony Stark//The Invincible Iron Man is a pretty powerful card, too.

Offering consistent card advantage and a way to cheat in massive artifacts, Tony Stark//The Invincible Iron Man is a shoo-in for artifact-focused Commander decks. Considering how popular this archetype is in Commander, it’s little wonder this card is expensive. That being said, looking at early EDHREC numbers, this card is far from being the most popular Commander right now.

Currently, it remains to be seen if these low play numbers will increase once Marvel Super Heroes is officially released. If they don’t, then there’s a non-zero chance that Tony Stark//The Invincible Iron Man could fall off.

3 | King T’Challa//Black Panther, Hope Enduring

King T'Challa//Black Panther Hope Enduring

Price: $18

Easily earning a spot on our list of the best cards in Marvel Super Heroes, King T’Challa//Black Panther, Hope Enduring has obscene potential. Capable of drawing 16 cards per turn cycle in Commander, King T’Challa is a card advantage machine. Not only will this keep you in the lead, but it can set up some wild win conditions, too.

Thanks to this potential, it looks like King T’Challa//Black Panther, Hope Enduring has a real shot in cEDH at the very least. Beyond this, Kind T’Challa may well see play in Standard, too, in a tempo-focused control deck. Even if this doesn’t happen, however, this card is a fantastic draw engine for Azorius-aligned decks that’s sure to see widespread play.

2 | Jennifer Walters//The Sensational She-Hulk

Jennifer Walters//The Sensational She-Hulk

Price: $20

Out of all the cards on this list of the most expensive Marvel Super Heroes cards, Jennifer Walters//The Sensational She-Hulk is the most surprising inclusion. Currently selling for $20, you’d think this is easily one of the best cards in the set, but it’s surprisingly niche. Essentially, Jennifer Walters is just another Voice of Victory effect for Selesnya decks.

While this might not sound hugely exciting, having an extra effect like this in Commander is always welcome. Theoretically, Jennifer Walters//The Sensational She-Hulk’s color identity does make things difficult, but cEDH rarely runs into this problem. Thanks to this, Jennifer Walters is going to appear in a ton of decks, even if she never gets transformed.

1 | The Mind Stone

The Mind Stone

Price: $75

Unsurprisingly, The Mind Stone is the most expensive card in Marvel Super Heroes. Following in the footsteps of The Soul Stone from MTG Spider Man, this new infinity stone will be an instant staple in Commander. According to EDHREC, in fact, this card is already preemptively included in over 4,600 Commander decks.

Essentially, as a two-mana Indestructible mana rock, The Mind Stone already has a place in most white-aligned Commander decks. Being able to Harness this card is basically a free upgrade, although that is really selling it short. Being able to flicker something for free during your end step is a huge boon to countless decks, not just flicker-focused ones.

While its current price tag of around $75 may seem obscene, it might actually be surprisingly cheap. Currently, copies of The Soul Stone are selling for $87 for comparison, and The Mind Stone is arguably better than this. Potentially, this new Infinity Stone may end up selling for even more, but that remains to be seen.
