Now that it’s legal everywhere, following prereleases last weekend, Tarkir: Dragonstorm hasn’t hesitated to make a splash. New cards are already topping tournaments and evolving archetypes in a big way. It’s safe to say that this set has some serious competitive potential and a fair few soon-to-be staples.
As usual, these new staples are bound to be expensive once the dust settles post-release. For now, prices are higher than usual since the set isn’t officially available at big box stores or online. Despite this, pre-sale cards are selling like hotcakes, leading to some utterly insane prices. Some Tarkir: Dragonstorm lands, in particular, are already selling for over $250!
The Best of the Best

Unsurprisingly, the most expensive lands in Tarkir: Dragonstorm aren’t technically in the main set. Instead, the honor goes to the Fetch Lands that are available as special guests. Specifically, the Dragonscale Foil Fetch Lands, which are some of the rarest cards in the set.
Only able to be found in Collector Boosters and appearing roughly 1% of the time, these lands are seriously rare. That alone would be enough to make these cards expensive, however, Fetch Lands are also unquestionably iconic and powerful. Played heavily in Modern, Legacy, Vintage, and Commander, Fetch Lands are simply some of the best lands in MTG.
With this in mind, it’s really no surprise that the Dragonscale Foil Fetches are so expensive. Technically, as foils, they shouldn’t have much demand from the competitive scene, but Commander players and collectors should adore these cards. Evidently, there’s more than enough demand to push the prices of these cards to already obscene levels.
Card Name | Current Price |
Arid Mesa | $188 |
Marsh Flats | $212 |
Misty Rainforest | $241 |
Scalding Tarn | $206 |
Verdant Catacombs | $190 |
Notably, while all of these prices are incredibly high right now, they’ll likely take a hit soon. Not only will more supply be available soon through larger retailers, but demand should also fade over time. Right now, a lot of players will be rushing to own and show off these cards first, but soon, these players will have their fill.
Ultimately, while prices will undoubtedly drop in the coming weeks, as we always see post-set release. That being said, these Dragonscale Foils definitely aren’t going to end up being cheap. At the very least, each of these cards should be worth $100+, but that technically remains to be seen.
Far From Basic
For better or worse, the rest of the lands in Tarkir: Dragonstorm are nowhere near as expensive. Right now, the best of the rest is Mistrise Village, which is selling for $14 on average. Depending on the card’s competitive appeal post-release, this current price could end up being a steal, but that remains to be seen.
Outside of Mistrise Village, Tarkir: Dragonstorm also has a suite of Dragon’s Eye basic lands. Appearing exclusively within Collector Boosters around 25% of the time, these lands aren’t super rare, but they’re nonetheless premium. That being said, the foil versions of these lands only appear 8.3% of the time, so they’re not exactly common.
So far, each of the Dragon’s Eye Lands is going for a respectable sum, especially since they’re just basics. While the Plains is lagging behind somewhat, they’re each an extra value injection into Tarkir: Dragonstorm Collector Boosters. That said, these are still pre-sale prices, which may drop in the coming weeks.
Last, but by no means least, there’s also the Dragon’s Eye Wastes promo, which is well worth looking out for. Available as part of the Love Your LGS program, this promo hasn’t popped up on TCGplayer yet, but it’s selling for $10 on eBay. Depending on the supply of this promo, it may end up being the most expensive of the lot by some margin.
