Wizards of the Coast is having a very busy week. On Monday, the Commanders for this year’s Final Fantasy set were revealed. Swiftly following this, Wizards gave Final Fantasy a proper first look on Tuesday, debuting a bunch of new spoilers. Yesterday, a brand new Secret Lair drop was unveiled that’ll be available for purchase this weekend. Tomorrow, it’s all about Tarkir: Dragonstorm.
In case you’ve missed Wizards talking about it, this weekend is MagicCon: Chicago. As always, there will be plenty to do at this convention, with tons of casual and competitive events available. As mentioned, there will also be a new Secret Lair drop up for grabs which could be seriously valuable. On top of all this, there will also be the coveted Preview Panel, which is typically choc full of reveals.
The Preview Panel
Unsurprisingly, The Preview Panel at MagicCon: Chicago continues the long-running trend of being the convention’s must-watch event. Held at 2:30 PM CST, on Friday, February 21st, this panel will be packed full of reveals. Sadly, Wizards of the Coast does not tend to livestream these events, however, reveals are often posted on social media.
This Friday, the places to watch will be the ever-reliable MTG subreddit and Wizards Twitter account. Following the event itself, a video is typically uploaded to YouTube, however, this can take some time. As always, we’ll be covering all the important reveals too, so you can just watch this space.
As for what’s being revealed, Tarkir: Dragonstorm will be the main focus of this Preview Panel. The livestream will serve as the official First Look for the set, so we can expect to see plenty of exciting reveals and details. While it may not match the scope of the recent Final Fantasy reveal, it should be a fantastic event nonetheless.
On top of talking about Tarkir: Dragonstorm, the Preview Panel will also give us “another glimpse at Edge of Eternities.” Currently, it’s unclear how much of a glimpse we’ll be getting during this panel, but any more information is always welcome. As MTG’s first space-themed set, it’s safe to say a lot of eyes are on Edge of Eternities.
Last, but by no means least, Wizards also promises “a couple other surprises.” Given these are, obviously, surprises, there’s no telling what these reveals might be. That said, there is a non-zero chance that Wizards might finally reveal the unannounced Universes Beyond set. Considering this mysterious set is releasing at the very end of 2025, however, we may have to wait for more information.
Tarkir: Dragonstorm First Look
Following on from the Final Fantasy First Look earlier this week, there may be high expectations for Tarkir: Dragonstorm. Sadly, we might not be getting another dramatic 18-card reveal to whet our appetites. Instead, we’re it’s more likely we’ll be getting a typical First Look, that reveals a handful of cards at best.
While this tempered reveal may not be the most exciting thing this week, there’s bound to be a lot of information revealed. If Tarkir: Dragonstorm has a bonus sheet, for example, we’ll learn about it during The Preview Panel. Similarly, we should be getting all the important dates for the set tomorrow too.
Speaking of dates, we already know that Tarkir: Dragonstorm will be released on the 11th of April this year. Typically, a set’s spoiler season will begin three weeks before the official release, so we’d expect that to begin on March 18th. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long until this date is confirmed officially.
As always, prior to the set’s spoiler season kicking off, we’ll also get a week of story content. Recently, Wizards has been sneaking a few spoilers into the story chapters to make them extra exciting. Given that Tarkir: Dragonstorm is the end of the Dragonstorm story arc, we can likely expect some big things.
As for what’s going to happen, well, that’s all still to be revealed. Thankfully, there’s really not long to wait at this point. As mentioned, The Preview Panel at MagicCon: Chicago will take place on February 21st at 2:30 PM CST. For reference, that’s 8:30 PM GMT, 3:30 PM EST, 12:30 PT.
