Sonic Secret Lair Bonus Card is a Potent Commander Staple

Share

To the surprise of many, multiple Sonic the Hedgehog Secret Lairs were revealed last week. In addition to reskins, one product even boasted a collection of new mechanically unique Sonic cards, and one card in particular looks incredibly strong.

Now, it looks like one of the bonus cards for these Secret Lairs has already been revealed. It’s unclear if this bonus card applies to all three Sonic Secret Lairs, and chances are, you’ll have the opportunity to get your hands on a different card. We’ve also seen this selection before in the past. Nonetheless, if you’re looking to add some Sonic-themed flare to your EDH decks, you’re in luck.

Command Tower

Command Tower

To no one’s surprise, Command Tower makes another appearance as a Secret Lair bonus card. All things considered, Command Tower makes a lot of sense to see reimagined in tons of different art styles. This is because Command Tower goes in pretty much every multi-color EDH deck out there.

It’s just a mana fixing free roll that comes with absolutely no drawbacks, which is tough to come by. With so many three-color, four-color, and even five-color legends available today, it’s become increasingly essential that you have enough fixing to cast your haymakers reliably.

On top of that, unlike other elite mana sources like Fetchlands and Dual lands that see lots of Constructed play, Command Tower can be picked up on the cheap. Much like Sol Ring and Arcane Signet, Command Tower has been reprinted countless times for EDH purposes.

That does mean that from a reprint value perspective, Command Tower adds very little extra monetary gain if it’s your bonus card. It’s worth roughly 25 cents in its cheapest, traditional form according to TCGplayer market price. Still, it’s hard to go wrong pulling such a versatile Commander card, especially if you enjoy building a variety of decks.

This time around, Command Tower is skinned as “Master Emerald Shrine,” where the Master Emerald and seven Chaos Emeralds used to lie long ago. This is a solid illustration choice for Sonic fans across the board.

Other Potential Pulls

So far, Command Tower is the only bonus card we’ve seen for the Sonic Secret Lairs. However, if the Spongebob Secret Lairs were any indication, there will likely be an ultra rare card to pull that could be worth a lot more money.

See, Command Tower was a common Spongebob Secret Lair bonus card. It appeared in rainbow foil and is currently worth just over $3. However, for those lucky enough to open it, Smothering Tithe showed up in a small subset of Secret Lairs, and its rainbow foil is currently selling for over $480 on TCGplayer.

These Sonic Secret Lairs could certainly follow a similar trend. Be on the lookout in the coming weeks for any other bonus card reveals. These Sonic products go on sale at 9 a.m. PT on July 14, so make sure to mark your calendars if you want to pick them up before any products inevitably sell out.
