New MTG Secret Lair Bonus Card Finally Completes $430 Series

At last, all that digging has paid off!

Back in February, we were introduced to a new set of ultra-rare Secret Lair bonus cards in the form of the Seven Dwarves variants. Following in the footsteps of Shadowborn Apostle and Persistent Petitioners, these cards have been rare bonuses in a range of drops throughout this year. Now, as we wind down into the winter months, the last Seven Dwarves MTG bonus card has finally been found.

This new, and likely very expensive, bonus card is just the tip of the Secret Lair iceberg at the moment. Both the Flower Power lands drop and the Kieran Yanner bonuses are starting to come out now. While we’ve been waiting longer than usual for these thanks to some big delays, now that they’re here, they seem well worth it.

The 7th Seven Dwarves MTG Bonus Card

Final Seven Dwarves MTG Bonus Card

The big headliner today is obviously the last Seven Dwarves bonus card, which MTG player Null_ID found in their Flower Power Secret Lair drop. This was the Chaos Vault drop that was notoriously sold for just $1 last month. As has always, this Seven Dwarves bonus card is a rare drop here, as others have reported finding the Alexander Khabbazi basic lands instead.

Like the previous six Seven Dwarves cards, the artwork here is pretty avant-garde. This card is numbered 819, which makes it the last in the series that started at 813. Now you can run all seven ultra-rare Seven Dwarves in one deck, if you so wish. That said, doing so would be an incredibly pricey endeavor.

The previous Seven Dwarves bonus cards range in price from $32 up to $106. In total, all six cost around $430 at current prices. Just going by averages on the series, this new card could easily be worth $60.

That said, supply tends to be the main driver of price for bonus cards. This means that this new version’s price tag is, ultimately, down to how many copies get opened. With the full cycle out in the wild, collectors may now start paying higher premiums to collect all seven, but this is hardly guaranteed. Seven Dwarves isn’t nearly as popular as the other cards that break Magic’s deckbuilding rules, after all.

Work-In-Progress Lord Of The Pit

Lord of the Pit 2

The other new bonus card we saw today was the one for Artist Series: Kieran Yanner. As shared by AwsomeAltera11 on r/secretlaircollectors, this is a work-in-progress version of Lord of the Pit.

This continues a long-running tradition with Artist Series drops. Each one we’ve seen so far has had a work-in-progress version of one of its cards as a bonus. These give fans of the artist an insight into their process, which is a great fit for a dedicated drop.

As for Lord of the Pit specifically, it’s a bit of a disappointing pick in all honesty. The Kieran Yanner drop was widely praised for its value on release, with both Demonic Tutor and Armageddon serving as big money cards. Either of those would’ve made for a stellar bonus and elevated this great drop even higher. Every past Artist Series drop has had a single, fixed bonus card, too. This means it’s very unlikely that either of the big hitters is a rare bonus card here.

While this Lord of the Pit is being listed at around $20 currently, I don’t expect that to hold long-term. There simply isn’t any real demand for the card, so the artwork is all it has going for it. The work-in-progress version will likely be worth less, too, since sketch-style cards like this tend to be divisive.

It’s a shame we couldn’t have had one of the big hits as the bonus here, but it’s not a massive deal in all honesty. Artist Series: Kieran Yanner is still a fantastic deal even without a good bonus, which is far better than most Secret Lair drops we see.
