Wizards Officially Reveals Three Secrets of Strixhaven Spoilers Early

Share

Officially, the spoiler season for Secrets of Strixhaven is due to begin tomorrow. While we can expect to see tons of exciting reveals then, we don’t have to wait to see new Secrets of Strixhaven cards. Today, Wizards unveiled a trio of early spoilers to whet players’ appetites in the latest story chapter. Unfortunately, despite being a day before the big debut, these new spoilers aren’t the best.

MTG Together as One

MTG Together as One

Out of the newly unveiled Secrets of Strixhaven Spoilers Together as One is easily the best of the bunch. At best, this spell gives five damage, five life, and five cards, which isn’t terrible for six mana. In a Five-Color Control deck, this card could easily be a strong value engine.

Unfortunately, while it’s possible to get value out of this card, the ideal home for it doesn’t exist right now. Standard is far too fast currently for this spell to be viable, and five-color decks aren’t big in the format, either. Realistically, this means Together as One will likely be confined to Commander, but it’s hardly ideal there either.

For better or worse, Together as One is really only going to be actually useful in Secrets of Strixhaven Limited. Even that is saying something, however, as you’ll be disappointed if this is your pack one rare. While it won’t be awful in limited, by any means, the leaks we’ve seen make Secrets of Strixhaven look absolutely stacked.

If anything, the only interesting thing about Together as One is that it costs six mana. Not only would it be more playable at five mana, but there are only five colors in MTG. Due to this, some players are already speculating that Reality Fracture might introduce a sixth color to Magic. Personally, I wouldn’t hold out hope that this will happen, but it is technically a possibility.

More Common Duds

MTG Secrets of Strixhaven Story Spoilers

Like all of the early Secrets of Strixhaven spoilers we’ve seen, the new common cards are just Draft chaff. Heated Argument, for instance, is not a good spell, as it’s really just very expensive removal. While you can technically Shock an opponent with this, too, five mana is too much for this to be playable.

On the surface, Banishing Betrayal does look like a better card, especially thanks to the enduring popularity of bounce decks. Sadly, this is no Boomerang Basics, and the added Surveil trigger isn’t great either. Notably, this card isn’t even new, as it’s literally just a functional reprint of Unauthorized Exit

Technically, the good news about this is that Unauthorized Exit does see some play in Commander. Competitively, however, this is another card that’ll only be useful in Limited, so don’t expect it to be a sleeper hit. While this is pretty disappointing, considering the story spoilers we got for Lorwyn Eclipsed, things should get better soon.

More Secrets of Strixhaven Spoilers Soon

Tomorrow, at 10 AM PT / 1 PM EST, MTG players can tune into the Secrets of Strixhaven Debut livestream. Broadcast on Twitch and YouTube, this debut is bound to reveal tons of exciting spoilers for players to brew with. At the very least, we know we’ll officially see Emeritus of Ideation, thanks to a recent teaser.

Throw in some of the crazy leaks we’ve seen recently, and Secrets of Strixhaven does look like an extremely powerful set. Despite the weaker spoilers we’re seeing here, there should be plenty of powerful cards for MTG players to be excited about.
