As revealed by IGN earlier today, the outlet previewed the first two cards from the upcoming Stranger Things Secret Lair drop.

Stranger Things is an American science-fiction horror television series created by the Duffer Brothers which is available on Netflix. Since the show’s release in 2016, Stranger Things has risen to popularity and widespread reception. If you are familiar with the show, it is no surprise to see this collaboration since the Duffer Brothers are huge MTG and Dungeon & Dragons fans.

This marks the first entry in the Universes Beyond series, a collection of MTG products that will feature collaborations with external IPs. Over the next year, there will be crossovers with Lord of the Rings, Fortnite, Street Fighter, and Warhammer 40K to expand the MTG brand further.

Stranger Things Secret Lair MTG Cards Revealed

As part of this reveal with IGN, Chief Jim Hopper and Eleven, the Mage will feature in the upcoming Secret Lair drop. Geared towards Commander players, both of these Legendary Creatures are sure to take the helm of various Commander decks, which will give birth to new and exciting strategies.

A new feature to this product, ‘Friends Forever’ is a flavorful replacement on the Partner mechanic. It also removes the option to use these cards with existing Partner cards from Commander Legends or other Commander products. It’s very likely the other cards in the drop will feature ‘Friends Forever’ too, which offers some interesting combinations for Commander players.

Chief Jim Hopper allows a ‘Investigate matters’ option in Boros colors. When the Human Soldier attacks, Chief Jim Hopper creates a Clue token once for each nontoken attacking creature. Going with the traditional Boros theme, the card cares about combat and using token enablers such as Annoited Procession to gain the most value.

Eleven, the Mage is in Grixis colors and cares about having a huge grip of cards. If you have eleven or more cards in your hand, you may cast an instant or sorcery without paying costs. It’s a typical Grixis card which is sure to see play in Commander or perhaps in the ninety-nine of a Nekusar, the Mindrazer deck.

There are other six cards from Secret Lair Stranger Things to be revealed, which Wizards of the Coast will show off on Twitch at 2.30 pm PT today. There is no official release date yet, and we’ll update you with the information when we have it.
