On Tuesday, June 29, 2021, Dan Frazier’s original artwork for the upcoming Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair card Arcane Signet was sold in an auction held on the MTG Art Market Facebook page for $15,000.Arcane Signet is a work of oil on Gatorboard and measures 9 inches by 11 inches, and was commissioned by Wizards of the Coast for the upcoming Secret Lair sets that feature the artist’s reimaginings of the ten Ravnica signets. Arcane Signet is thought to be intended as the “hidden card” found in the bottom of the upcoming print-on-demand MTG products.
Secret Lair Dan Frazier is Back
The eleven new images featured in the Secret Lair are Frazier’s first new illustrations for MTG in fifteen years, and this work features the original five Moxen as part of its design.
Auction for Arcane Signet by Dan Frazier started on June 24 with an $8,000 opening bid, and by June 28, eight bidders pushed the auction price to $13,000. In the final hour of the auction, someone made the last bid of $15,000.

The Arcane Signet art was mistakenly published as an available playmat by accessory maker Ultra Pro on their website, and this raised questions about the never-before-seen art. Even though we haven’t seen the actual card, Frazier was able to see his piece with Mark Aronowitz because the art and name were revealed.
The Dan Frazier is Back Secret Lair drops will be released on September 23, 2021. It’s available to order now at the Secret Lair website.
