While it got a bit lost in the mix with all the other Magic developments last year, Edge of Eternities introduced a pretty significant update to the rules of Commander. From the release of that set onwards, legendary Vehicles and Spacecraft have been viable choices for your Commander. In practice, this hasn’t changed much, since most legendary Vehicles just aren’t cut out for the command zone. The RMS Titanic, however, looks like an exception to this rule, as MTG players are rediscovering its surprising potential.
RMS Titanic MTG

Realistically, RMS Titanic is not a very good MTG card, at least as your Commander. While there are definitely some shenanigans to enjoy, there’s equally a lot going against it. The low toughness, sacrifice effect, and fact that you need to Crew it means there’s a lot of risk for dubious reward. Sure, you can get tons of Treasures for your trouble, but it’s a far cry from modern do-everything Commanders.
Thanks to a new video from Magic content creator Maldhound, however, MTG players are starting to give RMS Titanic some love. This is thanks to the card’s infinite combo potential, which can easily be unlocked by Assault Suit and Aggravated Assault. By ignoring the self-sacrifice effect and generating nine Treasures per hit, this easily allows you to get infinite combat steps.
Alternatively, you can go almost infinite by leaning into RMS Titanic’s Treasure generation alongside The Reaver Cleaver. By creating 16 Treasures per hit, you can easily recast RMS Titanic from the command zone and activate Aggravated Assault for another swing. Due to Commander Tax, you’re likely only to get 10 swings out of this, but that’s still 80 damage.
More On Board

Even with infinite combo potential, it’s hard to say RMS Titanic is anything more than fun but flawed. You can support it with cards like Magda, Brazen Outlaw and Reckless Fireweaver, but it’s not a best-in-class option. Instead, it’s much more sensible to have it as a one-off Treasure generator in the 99.
No matter where you’re looking to play it, RMS Titanic is thankfully a fairly expensive card. Currently, near-mint non-foil copies of this Doctor Who card are only going for around $3.70 on TCGplayer. Notably, this price has been trending upward over the past month, and this new attention could push it up more.
