2026 MTG Planeswalker Series Promos Include $19 Multi-Format Staple

One hit, three misses...

Since its inception in 2019, the Japan-exclusive Planeswalker Series promo line has consistently delivered high-value cards. Drawing from the Standard card pools of their time, each batch of promos has been highly playable, and often with striking new art, to boot.

Today saw the reveal of the next wave of promos in this series, and it’s an unfortunate departure from the norm. With one big hit here, the Planeswalker Series promos for the rest of 2026 are fairly underwhelming on the whole.

The July-September Promos

Planeswalker Series Promos 2026 July-September

From July to September this year, attending a Planeswalker Series event will net you one of two Duskmourn promo cards. Landing first place will net you The Wandering Rescuer, while simply participating will earn a Twitching Doll. While the art here is excellent, unfortunately, neither card is a great promo pick.

The Wandering Rescuer sees very scattered play in Standard and Modern, but for the most part, it’s a full-on Commander card. In this sphere, it’s reasonably popular, seeing play in nearly 29,000 decks by EDHREC numbers, including cEDH play in Winota, Joiner of Forces. Despite this, it’s only around a $2.50 card value-wise, so it’s not a big hit for a promo.

Twitching Doll is in a similar boat, seeing very little constructed play outside of smatterings in Standard Golgari Midrange. In Commander, it’s a bit of a niche role-player, serving as a mana dork for Spider Typal decks like Shelob, Child of Ungoliant for the most part. Though it’s the participation promo, and therefore easier to obtain than The Wandering Rescuer, Twitching Doll is actually slightly more valuable at around $3.

The October-December Promos

Fortunately, things pick up for the Planeswalker Series promos from October to December this year. The first-place promo for this season is Voice of Victory, while the participation promo is Strategic Betrayal.

Voice is a massive step up for this batch, being a genuine multi-format all-star. It sees play primarily in Modern Boros Energy, but it also has homes in Standard, Legacy, Pioneer, and even Vintage. It’s no slouch in Commander, either, showing up in nearly 210,000 white decks, including plenty of cEDH lists. As you’d expect from such a staple, Voice of Victory is fairly pricey at $19.

Closing things out on a bittersweet note, Strategic Betrayal is a very playable card with very limited financial value. It sees a ton of play in current Standard, in decks ranging from Dimir Excruciator to Mardu Discard. It doesn’t have much of a presence beyond this, however, even in Commander, so it’s only a $1 card overall.

While it’s certainly not as strong as past Planeswalker Series lineups, Voice of Victory prevents this new batch from being a total dud. With the usual scarcity multipliers on these promos, even the lower-end stuff could be worth more than expected, too.
