Duskmourn is set to release in just under two weeks, and it looks like a lot of fun overall. There are tons of new mechanics for players to enjoy that fit nicely with the horror theme. One of the most intriguing designs is undoubtedly the collection of Rooms available in the set. These cards are unique and versatile, and some of them look quite promising.
On the final day of Duskmourn spoiler season, one of the most powerful Rooms from an EDH standpoint was revealed. Known as Dazzling Theater/Prop Room, this card has a ton of synergies with a plethora of different Commanders. Let’s take a closer look at the best ways to abuse it and the best legends to pair with it.
Maximizing Dazzling Theater/Prop Room
- Mana Value: 3W/2W
- Rarity: Mythic Rare
- MTG Set: Duskmourn
- Card Text: (You may cast either half. That door unlocks on the battlefield. As a sorcery, you may pay the mana cost of a locked door to unlock it.)
Dazzling Theater – Creature spell you cast have convoke. (Your creatures can help cast those spells. Each creature you tap while casting a creature spell pays for 1 or one mana of that creature’s color.).
Prop Room – Untap each creature you control during each other player’s untap step.
In this instance, both halves of the Room are actually quite strong individually. On top of that, they play very well together, assuming you have the right pieces around them. For Dazzling Theater, you get to give all of your creature spells Convoke. This can be very strong in go-wide creature decks, giving you a discount on your potent haymakers. Notably, your creatures can help cast your Commander and can help pay for the Commander tax if your Commander has died previously.
The downside, of course, is that many of your creatures will be tapped during your opponents’ turns, making it difficult to block. Well, Prop Room fixes this problem. With both Rooms unlocked, you get to freely Convoke out your best creatures with no fear of getting run over.
At a baseline, this is pretty decent. In a multiplayer format like Commander, though, it’s not too difficult to start abusing both Rooms together. For example, if you have access to a card like Leyline of Anticipation, you’re heavily incentivized to unlock both Rooms. This way, you can Convoke out threats every turn, since all your creatures untap during each opponent’s turn.
Prop Room also lets you get a ton of mileage out of creatures with relevant activated abilities. Creatures that you can tap to generate value, such as Sea Gate Loremaster, become even more appealing when you’re getting to do so multiple times each turn cycle. If you have a big board of creatures, you may even be able to use Opposition to tap down each opponent’s lands during their upkeeps. The world is truly your oyster, and we’re just getting started!

Commanders That Pair Well
- Mana Value: RGW
- Rarity: Rare
- Stats: 4/3
- MTG Set: Bloomburrow
- Card Text: Tap two untapped tokens you control: Add one mana of any color. Tap three untapped tokens you control: Draw a card. Tap four untapped tokens you control: Put three +1/+1 counters on Baylen, the Haymaker. It gains trample until end of turn.
When it comes to Commanders that work well in conjunction with Dazzling Theater and Prop Room, there are a handful of excellent legendary creatures that come to mind. Up first, we have a relatively new addition in Baylen, the Haymaker. Baylen and Prop Room should be best friends moving forward. With enough token production, you’ll start to gain a massive advantage. Of course, you can use those tokens to Convoke out whatever your heart desires with Dazzling Theater in the mix.
Second, we have Lulu, Loyal Hollyphant. Lulu buffs all of your tapped creatures on your end step so long as you had a permanent leave the battlefield under your control that turn. Thanks to Dazzling Theater, you should have no trouble tapping a bunch of creatures to play more threats from your hand.
Likely the best Commander decks to slot Dazzling Theater/Prop Room into are those built around Kasla, the Broken Halo. Kasla rewards you every time you cast a spell with Convoke, and Dazzling Theater gives all creatures you cast that ability. The more cards you draw with Kasla, the more creatures you’ll have at your disposal to cast, creating a chain reaction.
It’s cool that Dazzling Theater and Prop Room come on the same card, as it gives you a lot of flexibility. With a strong supporting cast, this Room has the potential to be one of the best cards in your deck. We look forward to seeing all the shenanigans players manage to accomplish with this card in play.
