Article at a Glance

The Zombies archetype has always been a fan favorite deck, going back at least to original Innistrad, if not further back. It saw amazing success during that time, but had fallen off the competitive hype train. But now with the new standard legal set Innistrad: Midnight Hunt, and it’s return to more traditional gothic horror, we got a new, powerful zombie card previewed in Champion of the Perished. We also got a couple spicy cards coming to Historic in Historic Horizons. If we get more powerful support like this, zombies might be back on the menu.

Champion of the Perished

Champion of the perished is the zombified version of human staple Champion of the Parish. This creature gives the archetype a huge early game boost. This creature can get out of control pretty quick in this deck because of our low cost creatures.

Diregraf Colossus and Endling

Our 2 cards from Jumpstart: Historic Horizons are Diregraf Colossus and Endling. Diregraf Colossus can help us rebuild our board and go really wide against our opponents, and Endling has a lot of versatile abilities that should fit nicely in this deck. There’s a consideration of whether or not Endling should be Liliana, Untouched by Death, which can be a great removal piece as well as a way to come back from a board sweeper.

This list is by no means a final list, there’s a lot of testing to be done, but this definitely could be a good starting point to build into a better Zombies deck. What cards would you look to include in this deck? Let us know in the comments
