The surprisingly quick spoiler season for the Spider-Man MTG set comes to a close today. While the set is smaller than most Standard releases, a one-week spoiler season has nevertheless been a lot. Thankfully, while quick, the spoilers haven’t disappointed, as there are plenty of new constructed and Commander gems.
On top of all the exciting main set cards, there’s also the Marvel Universe Bonus Sheet. Containing 40 cards in total, this bonus sheet has already delivered some much-needed and high-value reprints. As if these weren’t enough, the final few Spider-Man bonus sheet cards have given us even more, with a fantastic $25 staple and a new Universes Beyond reprint.
Parallel Lives
Out of all of the recently revealed Spider-Man bonus sheet cards, Parallel Lives definitely takes the cake. Even after being reprinted in the Wilds of Eldraine Enchanting Tales bonus sheet in 2023, this is still a $26 MTG card. While this is by no means cheap already, the Enchanting Tales variant is currently selling for even more, at $33.
Since Spider-Man bonus sheet cards aren’t guaranteed to show up in every pack, there’s a good chance this new printing could be similarly expensive. As always, new supply could knock the price a little bit, but there’s plenty of demand. Due to this, I’d expect this new variant to sell for $25 at least, but it could easily be more.
In Commander, Parallel Lives appears in over 212,000 decks, according to EDHREC. Essentially, any token-based decks that have green in their color identity will want this card. More tokens mean more value, after all, and doubling up on them for just four mana is seriously strong.
Spider-Gwen, Web-Warrior | Najeela, the Blade-Blossom
Speaking of $25 reprints, there’s a non-zero chance that Spider-Gwen, Web-Warrior will sell for a similar price. In theory, this card, Najeela, the Blade-Blossom, is actually only worth $9, which isn’t bad, but it definitely isn’t amazing. Thanks to the recent Final Fantasy set, however, it’s clear this Spider-Man bonus sheet reprint has some interesting potential.
In the Final Fantasy: Through the Ages bonus sheet, Najeela, the Blade-Blossom was reprinted as Cloud Strife. Using classic concept art from Final Fantasy seven, it’s no surprise that this variant of Cloud, or rather Najeela, was incredibly popular. This, in turn, pushed prices up to miraculously even more than a past Secret Lair.
Theoretically, Spider-Gwen, Web-Warrior could follow a similar trend; however, the two characters aren’t equally iconic. There are definitely fans for Spider-Gwen, but it’s unclear if they’ll be enough to drive the price up. That said, the implicit rarity of Spider-Man bonus sheet cards should do some work for this card’s price.
As for the card itself, Najeela, the Blade-Blossom is fairly popular in Commander, and a real star in cEDH. If you can pay their WUBRG ability cost, Najeela will basically close out any game in that instant. Unsurprisingly, this power means there’s a fair bit of demand for Najeela, as at the very least, they’re a strong five-color combat-focused Commander.
Wedding Ring
Dropping sharply down the value order, Wedding Ring is only worth around $5. While this isn’t much in the grand scheme of MTG, once again, there is some enticing potential. The Special Guests variant of Wedding Ring from The Lost Cavens of Ixalan is currently selling for $15.
Should there be demand for this Spider-Man-themed art, and the rarity holds up, this reprint could sell for a similar sum. Much like the other cards on this list, it remains to be seen how well this will sell on the secondary market. While visually stunning, the intense designs on these cards might lower, rather than increase, overall demand.
Thankfully, as a card, Wedding Ring is rather compelling, and it sees a fair amount of Commander play. Primarily found in group-hug style decks, Wedding Ring can provide you and a hopefully friendly opponent with equal life gain and draw. Depending on who you befriend, or rather piggyback off, this could net you tons of value.
Reprieve
Last, and technically also least, Reprieve is a welcome, but definitely not expensive, reprint. Until now, we’ve only had one printing of Reprieve, and that was in The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth. For better or worse, despite this exclusivity, copies of Reprieve really aren’t expensive, at under $1.
Notably, while the original printing is rather cheap, there’s an immense amount of supply for this variant. Due to the implicit rarity of the Spider-Man bonus sheet cards, this new printing could end up being a fair bit more valuable. To support this theory, there is a $3 Showcase Scrolls variant, although this is hardly overwhelmingly expensive.
Despite its low price tag, Reprieve is an incredibly solid card that sees competitive play alongside being a Commander staple. Functioning as a pseudo-counterspell, Reprieve does it all. You even get to draw a card on top of all that, which is worth the cost in white regardless.
