New Relentless Rats Bonus Card Could Sell for $100+

Share

As if Bloomburrow wasn’t enough to get excited about, Secret Lair spoiler season is in full swing. Over the past two weeks, MTG players have seen the contents of the latest Superdrop steadily being revealed. Bizarrely dubbed the Inside an Elevator Superdrop, this upcoming drop has a lot to be excited about, including two crossovers.

Before this Superdrop can steal the spotlight and start selling out, even more Secret Lair cards are being spoiled. Specifically, we’re now seeing bonus cards from the Summer Superdrop 2024 appearing online. Within this latest batch of spoilers, it appears a brand-new variant of the fan-favorite Relentless Rats has appeared.

Beyond just looking good, this new Secret Lair Bonus Card also has the potential to be seriously lucrative for lucky MTG players.

Relentlessly Expensive Relentless Rats

Relentless Rats 752

Recently revealed on Reddit by TheForsakenBacon_, this new variant of Relentless Rats was found in the Featuring: Julie Bell drop. As a note, however, it’s incredibly unlikely this is a fixed bonus card associated with this Secret Lair. Instead, as is usually the case, this Relentless Rats is likely a random insert and quite a rare one at that.

If this new variant of Relentless Rats is anything like its bonus card predecessors, it’ll be an incredibly expensive MTG card. At the high end, past variants such as #757 are worth over $100. Considering this card is available for as little as $2.50 a pop, this maximum price is absolutely insane.

Even the low end for this bonus card is incredibly expensive. Currently, the cheapest Relentless Rats bonus card is #755, which sells for $46. While this exorbitant price is theoretically the floor, the price of this new variant is unknown. Ultimately, it’ll all depend on just how common this new Secret Lair variant is as a bonus card.

Looking back at past one-card-deck cards like Persistent Petitioners, the floor for these bonus cards is fairly low. Variant #599 of Persistent Petitioners is only worth $15, for example. Meanwhile, variant #595 is worth a whopping $346, so it’s safe to say there’s a range. We’re just going to have to wait and see what Relentless Rats #752 falls on that.

As if this new bonus card didn’t already have enough potential, a new Bloomburrow legend may increase demand for Relentless Rats. Vren, the Relentless can essentially create Relentless Rats tokens, making them a great Commander option. While Vren is unlikely to usurp other Commander options like Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm, they may still increase demand.

A Bounty of Bonus Cards

Summer Superdrop 2024 Bonus Cards

On top of Relentless Rats appearing as the big ticket item, a pair of other bonus cards have recently cropped up. Neither of these cards is that exciting, however, or even that new for that matter. Haystack, for example, was revealed way back when the Da Vinci’s Designs drop was first announced.

Given that Haystack is a $0.25 card, it’s hard to get that excited about this card financially. That being said, copies of the Secret Lair variant are supposedly already selling for $26 on TCGplayer, which is remarkable! As if this wasn’t impressive enough, there’s also the question of where this bonus card can be found.

On Reddit, Obsinyx claimed to have found this card as part of the Assassin’s Creed: Lethal Legends drop. While the Assassin’s Creed theming would carry over, it’s unclear if this was a misspack or not. Given Lethal Legends has a completely different art style, there’s a non-zero chance this bonus card was a mistake. Whether or not that is the case, however, is unconfirmed.

Alongside this potentially guaranteed bonus card, several MTG players have reported finding more borderless Elves. Given this theme has been established for a while, these cards cropping up isn’t a surprise, nor is their low value. According to commenters on Reddit, the $0.07 Pollenbright Druid is a surprisingly common appearance.

Similarly, a new borderless variant of Frilled Mystic was briefly complained about on Reddit. This post, however, has since been deleted. Despite this, on TCGplayer, copies of this new bonus card are reportedly selling for $7.77. Sadly, there’s no telling if this price will last since the rarity of these bonus cards varies wildly.

Boundless Bonus Cards

While we’ve seen a steady stream of bonus cards over the past few days, there are bound to be more in the future. After all, the Inside an Elevator Superdrop is just a few days away from releasing at this point. We’ve even seen some of the bonus cards from this Superdrop already thanks to San Diego Comic Con.

Ultimately, while bonus cards are a feature of every single Secret Lair drop, they’re not worth banking on. As much as there’s the potential to find a $100+ Relentless Rats, it’s safer to invest in what you can see. Luckily, we have been seeing more and more bonus cards being revealed before or during sales windows recently.
