Nautiloid Ship is seeing a massive price spike thanks to the most expensive card in the MTG Assassin’s Creed crossover. Over the last month, the card has spiked from $1.96 to $12! Many players thought that the Assassin’s Creed set wouldn’t boast anything interesting for a majority of formats. The power level of the set paled in comparison to Modern Horizons 3. Outside of some Commander players wanting to build Assassins, who’s interested in this set?
To the surprise of many, a perfect storm of disinterest and demand has caused Edward Kenway to become incredibly expensive. The card offers Commander players everything they need while creating an extremely unique gamespace to utilize. Part of Kenway’s plan involves Vehicles, and Nautiloid Ship is one of the best Vehicles in the Commander format.
Nautiloid Ship
- Mana Value: 4
- Rarity: Mythic Rare
- Card Stats: 5/5
- Card Text: Flying, When Nautiloid Ship enters the battlefield, exile target player’s graveyard. Whenever Nautiloid Ship deals combat damage to a player, you may put a creature card exiled with Nautiloid Ship onto the battlefield under your control. Crew 3.
Nautiloid Ship does a ton of strong things, and it all starts as soon as it enters play. Graveyard hate is only becoming more and more relevant as more decks are created that utilize the bone pile. That said, you’ll probably target whoever has the scariest creature in their graveyard, since Nautiloid Ship can cheat the card into play after dealing combat damage to a player. Spending four mana for an Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger sounds like a good idea to me!
Flickering Nautiloid Ship can help the Vehicle keep players’ graveyards in check while consistently providing a steady stream of opposing creatures to your table. While Edward Kenway put this card on the map, it could also be a good upgrade to the Outlaws of Thunder Junction pre-con Grand Larceny.
If you can consistently Crew and connect with Nautiloid Ship, it’s a good inclusion in your Commander deck. Edward Kenway goes even further, granting you card advantage whenever you connect with a Vehicle! This allows the Battle of Baldur’s Gate Mythic Rare to keep providing value even after the exiled grave stops giving you creatures to put into play.
Nautiloid Ship has always been a good Commander card. Sadly, Vehicles are not a very good Magic card type. With added incentives to make this card work, Nautiloid Ship is making a massive comeback on the secondary market, and in the Commander format.
