MTG’s debut into 2023 looks to be a rocky one. Wizards of the Coast recently announced that players should expect the release of Dominaria Remastered, the first new MTG set of 2023, to be late in certain parts of the world. Delays have been quite severe as of late, with the year-long delay of the Heads, I Win, Tails, You Lose Commander deck being the shining example. While these delays do not look nearly as bad as that, some MTG players should expect to have release weekends, and release dates for Dominaria Remastered pushed back. Here, we will go over what you should expect, depending on your location.

Dominaria Remastered

Wrath of God by Dave Kendall

Dominaria Remastered is a full reprint set intended to release the weekend of January 13. Following some complaints from the MTG community of spoiler fatigue, Wizards of the Coast attempted an experiment with Dominaria Remastered. Unlike traditional spoiler seasons, Wizards of the Coast did the spoilers for Dominaria Remastered over the course of two days. This floodgate of spoilers completely took over the MTG community for that time, but players were quite happy with the change. Instead of becoming the main topic of discussion for multiple weeks, players who are interested in Dominaria Remastered can take a look after the full two days. That said, a lot of the feedback mentioned that this only worked because Dominaria Remastered is a full reprint set. This may be much more difficult to process if most of the spoilers were new to MTG.

Dominaria Remastered Delays

To begin, most of the world will not be affected by the delays recently announced by Wizards of the Coast. That said, the affected areas may have to wait weeks longer than expected for their Dominaria Remastered products. The affected areas are as follows:

  • China
  • Hong Kong
  • Indonesia
  • The Philippines
  • South Korea
  • Taiwan
  • Thailand

According to the report released earlier today, players from these areas should expect to have their WPN preview events occurring on the weekend of January sixth to be rescheduled.

In terms of product availability, things get more severe. Currently, Dominaria Remastered releases on January 13. Thailand seems to be the least restricted in terms of expected products, as players from this area should expect to only have Draft Boosters available to them at the release date.

Things get slightly more bizarre for China, South Korea, and Taiwan. Limited enthusiasts in these areas may be disappointed, as only Collector Booster products from Dominaria Remastered will be available upon release. According to Wizards of the Coast, Draft Boostersare “to be available later in the month.”

Release Date Pushback

Unfortunately, there is an area of players who will have all of Dominaria Remastered delayed for about a week. While an exact release date has not been provided, Wizards did mention that players from Indonesia and The Philippines should expect delays “until approximately January 20, one week after release.”

Players have been clamoring for a break regarding new products, so this may not be bad for affected areas. While 2022 has been the ‘best’ year for Magic: the Gathering, it has also been riddled with more product releases than we’ve ever seen. Trying to get everything out on time has made events like this more common along the way.
