MTG X Nickelodeon Panel to Reveal New Collaboration

Share

Magic: The Gathering’s Universes Beyond initiative has brought some of the biggest names in pop culture under one roof. Players have the opportunity to experience everything from Fortnite to SpongeBob reimagined with a Magic twist, whether they’ve wanted to or not. For better or worse, it seems that anything goes now, as we’ve even had a Play-Doh Secret Lair recently.

While MTG has already featured two big Nickelodeon IPs, Avatar: The Last Airbender and SpongeBob SquarePants, an upcoming panel confirms more is on the horizon.

It has recently been revealed that Nickelodeon and Magic: The Gathering will have a panel at the upcoming New York ComicCon. On October 10th at 11:00 AM, attendees can get a first look at “the next powerful team-up between Magic: The Gathering and Nickelodeon.”

This could technically be some early Avatar: The Last Airbender spoilers, but chances are that this panel will reveal a partnership that MTG players aren’t aware of yet. This has a lot of players speculating about what IPs could be the next to appear in Magic: The Gathering. According to fans, one guess stands out as a lot more likely than the rest.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are Coming to Magic?

Judging by the guests appearing at this panel, many MTG players are convinced that the next big crossover between these franchises is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Not only that, but fans are convinced that this will be a full set. This is based on the guests who have been named for the panel.

Eric Englehard is a set designer for Magic: The Gathering, not a Secret Lair guy, making it much more likely that this announcement will be talking about a tentpole release. Crystal Frasier, another Wizards of the Coast employee, is a game designer who is also known as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan. Stephanie Cheung, the last guest on the panel, is a Wizards of the Coast Art Designer.

While this doesn’t confirm anything, it makes a decent case for this panel to be a TMNT tentpole set announcement. We already have an Avatar: The Last Airbender set, which makes this even more plausible. As far as Nickelodeon’s IPs go, the theme between TMNT and Magic doesn’t quite align, but it is far better than the likes of Fairly OddParents or Jimmy Neutron. That said, those could still appear as Secret Lairs, which is a scary thought.

That’s it, Folks!

Unfortunately, we know little to nothing about the upcoming Magic x Nickelodeon Panel at NYCC. Besides the date, time, and panelists, we are only left with one sentence. Besides suggesting that this is a new set, and not something we’ve already seen, there’s little to nothing to go with here.

A full set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles may seem far-fetched to some, but there’s a surprisingly long list of characters to choose from. Despite Avatar: The Last Airbender being better received, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ran for a much longer time, having a total of five seasons. If Avatar can create an entire set without dipping into The Legend of Korra, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles should easily be able to do the same. Get ready to equip that hockey stick to Captain America in your future Commander games. It looks like the Turtles might be coming to Magic.
