After months of Universes Beyond, Secrets of Strixhaven’s spoiler season is a breath of fresh air. Five new incredible Commander precons, alongside some killer spoilers, have all hit the internet in less than 24 hours. Despite this, on top of dropping dozens of cards and hundreds of reprints, Universes Beyond still found a way to sneak in.
Alongside a bizarrely paywalled Thanos to Plowshares card revealed last week, another new MTG x Marvel promo has been revealed. Showcasing the Avengers: Armageddon comic debut, players can now find a new MTG Warstorm Surge with some sweet artwork.
MTG Warstorm Surge

Available starting June 26th, MTG and Marvel fans alike can find this Warstorm Surge alongside the first printing of the upcoming Avengers: Armageddon #1. The comic will be sold in a special polybag containing both the promo and the comic, with both items highlighting the special cover-variant artwork.
As far as promos go, a Warstorm Surge reprint is a bit of a mixed bag. Dealing damage to any target whenever a creature enters, Warstorm Surge turns any creature you play into a removal spell. In extreme cases, Warstorm Surge is a win condition associated with a ton of infinite combos. Thanks to this, the card is quite popular in Commander, appearing in over 173,000 decks according to EDHREC.
Sadly, because the card is so widely played, Warstorm Surge has been reprinted in a ton of different Commander precons. With 14 different variants available, the cheapest copies of this enchantment don’t even cost a dollar. While this likely means that this promo won’t be too expensive, high-end copies of the card currently go for $10. The card’s final price will likely depend on availability, which will wholly depend on how easy it is to find and how many people go out of their way to grab it.
Regardless of how rare this promo ends up being, MTG players are annoyed with the constant interruption of in-Universe spoiler seasons. This has been happening for quite some time now, including the recent April Fools Deadpool Secret Lair that literally appeared out of nowhere. Sadly, despite player pushback, it doesn’t look like these spoiler interruptions will stop anytime soon.
