Bizarre Reimagined MTG Legend Creates Infinite Tokens, Mana, and Damage

Share

While they looked rather innocuous when first released, Treasure Tokens would quickly become one of the most powerful resource types in Magic’s newer era. Because of this, MTG’s best Treasure Commanders also encompass some of the best Commanders in the game.

By exploring the ‘what if’ possibilities of many legendary creatures, Reality Fracture may well add a new Commander to this roster. Creating 1/1 Treasure creatures whenever you cast a noncreature spell, Vraska, Soul of Stone has an incredible amount of potential.

MTG Vraska, Soul of Stone

We decided not to include Game Changers in this sample decklist. If you want to customize this deck yourself, you can do so at our deckbuilder!

While Vraska, Soul of Stone has a ton of powerful synergies, many of them start with a Haste enabler. With cards like Alibou, Ancient Witness Alibou, Ancient Witness Alibou, Ancient Witness Other artifact creatures you control have haste.
Whenever one or more artifact creatures you control attack, Alibou deals X damage to any target and you scry X, where X is the number of tapped artifacts you control.

Artifact cards and red creature cards in your hand have warp {2}{R}. (You may cast a card from your hand for its warp cost. Exile that permanent at the beginning of the next end step, then you may cast it from exile on a later turn.)
in play, the Treasure Sculpture tokens Vraska creates can both attack and generate mana immediately. If you don’t want to attack with your tokens, Thousand-Year Elixir Thousand-Year Elixir Thousand-Year Elixir You may activate abilities of creatures you control as though those creatures had haste.

-style effects can also work, allowing your Treasure creatures to create mana immediately.

Once you have a Haste enabler, the next thing Vraska needs is Skullclamp Skullclamp Skullclamp Equipped creature gets +1/-1.

With tons of tutors like Cloud, Midgar Mercenary Cloud, Midgar Mercenary Cloud, Midgar Mercenary When Cloud enters, search your library for an Equipment card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle.

, Vraska should have no issue finding this card. The Hobbit’s Fateful Discovery Fateful Discovery Fateful Discovery Whenever an artifact you control enters, draw a card. can also draw an absurd amount of cards, but the mana value means it will come down later.

With a Haste Enabler and a draw engine online, all Vraska needs is a bunch of cheap, noncreature spells to cast, creating tons of tokens in the process. Phyrexian mana spells like Gitaxian Probe Gitaxian Probe Gitaxian Probe ({U/P} can be paid with either {U} or 2 life.)

can create tons of bodies. Bizarrely, because Vraska, Soul of Stone is a Wizard, the card gets a few extra ability-doubling effects, like Harmonic Prodigy Harmonic Prodigy Harmonic Prodigy Prowess (Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, this creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.)
If a triggered ability of a Shaman or another Wizard you control triggers, that ability triggers an additional time.
and Wizard’s Staff Wizard’s Staff Wizard’s Staff Equipped creature has prowess. (Whenever its controller casts a noncreature spell, that creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.)

When Galazeth Prismari enters, create a Treasure token.
Artifacts you control have "{T}: Add one mana of any color. Spend this mana only to cast an instant or sorcery spell."
and Inspiring Statuary Inspiring Statuary Inspiring Statuary Nonartifact spells you cast have improvise. (Your artifacts can help cast those spells. Each artifact you tap after you're done activating mana abilities pays for {1}.) can help you make mana and create a board at the same time.

With your engine established, all that’s left is finding a few ways to win the game. If you want to attack, Moonshaker Cavalry Moonshaker Cavalry Moonshaker Cavalry Flying
When this creature enters, creatures you control gain flying and get +X/+X until end of turn, where X is the number of creatures you control.
or Coat of Arms Coat of Arms Coat of Arms Each creature gets +1/+1 for each other creature on the battlefield that shares at least one creature type with it. (For example, if two Goblin Warriors and a Goblin Shaman are on the battlefield, each gets +2/+2.) can easily make a board of Treasure Sculptures a lethal force. You can also borrow win conditions from more traditional Treasure strategies, using cards like Reckless Fireweaver Reckless Fireweaver Reckless Fireweaver Whenever an artifact you control enters, this creature deals 1 damage to each opponent. to burn your opponent out with Vraska’s ability. Academy Manufactor Academy Manufactor Academy Manufactor If you would create a Clue, Food, or Treasure token, instead create one of each. can help push this over the edge, creating a nauseating amount of artifact tokens.

Since you’ll have access to tons of mana, too, Vraska can also build up to a massive Crackle With Power Crackle With Power Crackle With Power Crackle with Power deals five times X damage to each of up to X targets. -style effect to end the game in one big flurry. Artifact-focused synergies are also on the table, allowing cards like Goblin Welder Goblin Welder Goblin Welder {T}: Choose target artifact a player controls and target artifact card in that player's graveyard. If both targets are still legal as this ability resolves, that player simultaneously sacrifices the artifact and returns the artifact card to the battlefield. to cheat in big bombs like Portal to Phyrexia Portal to Phyrexia Portal to Phyrexia When this artifact enters, each opponent sacrifices three creatures of their choice.
At the beginning of your upkeep, put target creature card from a graveyard onto the battlefield under your control. It's a Phyrexian in addition to its other types.
, or just go infinite with Sewer-veillance Cam Sewer-veillance Cam Sewer-veillance Cam Flash
When this artifact enters or leaves the battlefield, you may tap or untap target creature.
{3}{U}, Sacrifice this artifact: Draw two cards.
. There’s also some weird Sculpture Typal support, with cards like Doomed Artisan Doomed Artisan Doomed Artisan Sculptures you control can't attack or block.
At the beginning of your end step, create a colorless Sculpture artifact creature token with "This token's power and toughness are each equal to the number of Sculptures you control."
creating extremely beefy tokens to swing with.

Going Infinite

While you can easily win games with Vraska, Soul of Stone without going infinite, the card can easily assemble game-winning combos, too. For the most part, with a Haste enabler like Mass Hysteria Mass Hysteria Mass Hysteria All creatures have haste. online, Vraska just acts as a Storm-Kiln Artist Storm-Kiln Artist Storm-Kiln Artist This creature gets +1/+0 for each artifact you control.
Magecraft — Whenever you cast or copy an instant or sorcery spell, create a Treasure token. (It's an artifact with "{T}, Sacrifice this token: Add one mana of any color.")
, allowing her to pull off similar combos, so long as Magecraft isn’t required.

For example, Vraska can create infinite tokens with a Haste enabler, Pinnacle Monk Pinnacle Monk Pinnacle Monk Prowess (Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, this creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.)
When this creature enters, return target instant or sorcery card from your graveyard to your hand.
, and Cloudshift Cloudshift Cloudshift Exile target creature you control, then return that card to the battlefield under your control. available. With the Monk in play, Cloudshift it, creating a Hasty token in the process. The Monk will enter, grabbing Cloudshift from your graveyard, and you can tap Vraska’s token to recast it. With Reckless Fireweaver Reckless Fireweaver Reckless Fireweaver Whenever an artifact you control enters, this creature deals 1 damage to each opponent. to deal damage, or a token or ability doubler to create infinite tokens, this combo easily wins via infinite damage.

If you want to focus on pulling this combo off, it has an absurd amount of redundancy. Cloudshift, for example, can be replaced by Essence Flux Essence Flux Essence Flux Exile target creature you control, then return that card to the battlefield under its owner's control. If it's a Spirit, put a +1/+1 counter on it. or Splash Portal Splash Portal Splash Portal Exile target creature you control, then return it to the battlefield under its owner's control. If that creature is a Bird, Frog, Otter, or Rat, draw a card. , giving you more Blink options. Similarly, you can replace Pinnacle Monk with all kinds of ETB cards that bring instants or sorceries back, like Archaeomancer Archaeomancer Archaeomancer When this creature enters, return target instant or sorcery card from your graveyard to your hand. and Revolutionist Revolutionist Revolutionist When this creature enters, return target instant or sorcery card from your graveyard to your hand.
Madness {3}{R} (If you discard this card, discard it into exile. When you do, cast it for its madness cost or put it into your graveyard.)
.

While this combo is included in our sample list, it has no redundancy, which you can adjust in our MTG deckbuilder if you choose. Honestly, though, even without this combo, Vraska, Soul of Stone is an incredibly powerful Commander, especially with a Skullclamp focus.
