MTG Trick Or Treat Events Add Spooky Twist To Sealed

Witch way to the treats?
Article at a Glance

The leaves are falling and the nights are closing in. We’re deep in the throes of spooky season, folks, and Magic is more than willing to accommodate. Duskmourn is still in full swing, providing ghastly Limited delights for all who seek them. On top of that, some seasonal Halloween events are on their way. Between October 25th and 31st, you can attend an MTG Trick or Treat event at your local store. What exactly will these events entail? Join me as I peer beyond the veil and find out.

The Tricks

MTG Trick or Treat Chaos Sealed

As you might expect, the MTG Trick or Treat events are composed of two parts: the tricks and the treats.

‘Trick’ here represents a unique Sealed format. If you come along to one of these events, you’ll be able to take part in a kind of ‘Chaos Sealed’ event. Like regular Sealed, you’ll get six packs with which to build a 40-card deck. These packs will come in a fun Halloween goodie bag, for an extra seasonal flourish. Unlike regular Sealed, some of the packs you’re working with won’t be known in advance.

Four of the packs you get will be Duskmourn Play Boosters, no surprises there. The other two will be completely random MTG boosters. As the official event page states, these can be Play, Draft, Set, or even Collector Boosters. The sets they hail from are totally random, too. The WPN page for the event notes that these random packs are provided to participating stores by Wizards, so the event won’t be limited by the inventory of individual stores. You really could get anything!

That’s not the only twist the Trick events offer, however. In their goodie bag, participating players will also get a unique Trick or Treat emblem. This emblem has the following text:

“Whenever an enchantment enters the battlefield under your control, choose one: Trick – create a treasure token. Treat – create a food token.”

During the event, all players will begin the game with this emblem in play. This makes the enchantment-matters theme of Duskmourn much more potent and should give these games a unique flavor you won’t see anywhere else. This emblem should put an interesting spin on the random packs, too. You may even find yourself scanning for enchantments rather than pricey mythics as you look through a Collector Booster.

The Treats

The other side of the MTG Trick or Treat event is, by process of elimination, the Treat side. This is much less involved, but it’s still very welcome for those seeking some spooky Magic fun.

Spending $75 (or the equivalent in your local currency) or more at your LGS while the Trick or Treat event is running will get you a bonus reward. This reward is a goodie bag, very similar to the one you build your deck with during the Trick events. It contains two totally random MTG boosters, and the Trick or Treat emblem card.

The emblem is a nice bonus, but the two random boosters are actually very spicy indeed. Remember, the goodie bags for this event have the chance to contain Collector Boosters. Getting a free gift worth $30+ with your purchase is a great deal. Even on the low end, two regular boosters will set you back around $14 these days, so it’s a nice extra if you were planning to spend $75 anyway. Note that only sealed product purchases count towards this promotion, so your entry fee for the Trick event, if you choose to participate, won’t factor in.

All in all, the Trick or Treat event looks like a great night for any Magic player with a bit of seasonal soul. The Chaos Sealed format with an emblem twist sounds interesting, and the free gifts are a nice touch. These events will be running at participating WPN stores between the 25th and 31st of October. Make sure you check with your LGS for the exact details of theirs!
