MTG Spider-Man Announcement Confirmed for Next Week

Share

For better or worse, the MTG machine is truly relentless. This week, the spoiler season for Edge of Eternities will conclude, followed by prerelease events kicking off next Friday, the 25th. In the grand scheme of MTG, this isn’t anything out of the ordinary; however, that’s not all that’s happening next week.

Thanks to San Diego Comic-Con, next week is going to be especially busy. A series of major MTG announcements have just been confirmed for the tail end of next week. Sadly, for anyone looking to enjoy peace and quiet during Edge of Eternities’ prerelease events, it seems we’re getting even more spoilers soon.

To say that the schedule for San Diego Comic-Con 2025 is busy would be an understatement. Across the long weekend, there are tons of events, presentations, games, and more. There’s so much to do that looking at the long list can be rather daunting, to say the least.

Thankfully, there are only a handful of events that MTG players need to be aware of. The biggest of these is the Magic: The Gathering x Marvel’s Spider-Man: First Look. As the name suggests, this First Look event will give us our first glimpse at spoilers, as well as art from the set.

These predictions aren’t just based on past precedent, as the panel’s page on the schedule is rather forthcoming. Due to this, we know it’ll only be one week before new MTG spoilers are revealed. Technically, these won’t be the first Spider-Man spoilers, since a Scene Box was revealed previously. This First Look, however, should be our first taste of main set Spider-Man cards.

While there are no guarantees about which cards we’ll see, it’s pretty obvious we’ll be getting a Spider-Man or two. Much like Debut events, First Looks tend to go big with Headliner cards and shocking reveals. Given the love for Marvel and Spider-Man, we’d be very surprised if this announcement disappoints at all.

As usual, the information from this panel should be posted to social media as it happens. Not only are those in attendance bound to post about things on Reddit, but usually, Wizards will share reveals on social media. Wizards’ official BlueSky account will probably be the best place to watch next Friday.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Promo Card

As if a major Spider-Man First Look panel wasn’t exciting enough, Avatar: The Last Airbender is also getting some love. From next Thursday, the 24th, those at San Diego Comic-Con can go to the Petco Park Interactive Zone to receive a “special Katara promo card.” Considering we’ve only seen Avatar Aang so far, this means a new Avatar spoiler will be revealed very soon.

Outside of the fact that this soon-to-be-revealed spoiler exists, there’s not much to say about it right now. We can presume that Katara is going to be a blue-aligned card with Waterbending in some capacity, but that’s just an educated guess. If we’re lucky, we might get the rules text for Waterbending; however, there’s sadly no guarantee of this.

Ultimately, we’re just going to have to wait and see what gets revealed next week. As soon as this promo is handed out, we’re bound to see it online. Not only will it be posted to Reddit, but some are bound to try and sell their promos too.

If, or rather when, this happens, it’s basically guaranteed that the Katara Promo card will be obscenely expensive. An event exclusive card from a hugely anticipated crossover practically has valuable written all over it. Potentially, this card could sell for well over $100; however, it’ll all depend on how much supply is available.

Last, but by no means least, Mark Rosewater will have his very own panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025. Once again, the rather informative name of this panel lets us know what to expect. This panel will essentially be a “one-man program in which he re-creates his daily blog.”

Since Rosewater will be answering questions from the audience, it’s impossible to know what may be revealed here. There’s a chance that this panel won’t contain any juicy details; however, there are bound to be a few. Unlike the First Look panel, Wizards is unlikely to provide live coverage for this event, but a recording should be posted afterwards.

Ultimately, as with the rest of the San Diego Comic-Con reveals, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Thankfully, Comic-Con is only a week away at this point, so we won’t have to wait long for news. While this is all very exciting, we can only hope that these reveals don’t overshadow Edge of Eternities’ prerelease events too much.
