New MTG Advert Leaks Sixth Star Trek Secret Lair Drop

Share

Last week, Wizards of the Coast revealed almost all of the next Secret Lair superdrop. Aptly named “Set Phasers to Superdrop,” this Star Trek-themed bunch had pretty middling value overall, but there was one saving grace.

While Wizards initially revealed five drops at once, there is a sixth Secret Lair drop that hasn’t yet been revealed. This, however, may be changing very soon, as a new advert for the Superdrop has just unveiled a couple of new reprints.

Sadly, while this advert does confirm the sixth drop’s style, details about it are very few and far between. With the Superdrop launching on November 9th, however, it shouldn’t be long before we find out more.

From the looks of the leaked advert, it appears that the final Set Phasers to Superdrop drop is potentially Borg-themed. This isn’t outright confirmed right now, but it’s clearly very metal and body horror-y.

Unfortunately, due to the size of the leaked advert, it’s not entirely confirmed what the couple of new cards we can see are. Both these cards appear to be renamed reprints, though “Negatronic Man” raises more questions than answers.

With no MTG Star Trek card having this name, there’s only a vague connection to Data’s “Positronic” brain. Even this, however, is a tenuous link, as Negatronic isn’t a thing in Star Trek’s official canon either.

This oddity aside, MTG players have already determined what both the leaked reprints are thanks to clever sleuthing. Negatronic Man appears to be a reprint of Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor Whenever a creature deals combat damage to one of your opponents, its controller may pay 1 life. If they do, they draw a card.

reprint.

Sadly, while these Secret Lair reprints might look good, from a value perspective, they’re pretty awful. Gix is worth less than a dollar thanks to a recent reprint, while Suture Priest is only a bit better, being worth around $1.40.

While this really isn’t much to write home about, the remaining cards in this drop could be much, much better. Whether or not this is the case, however, remains to be seen for now.

Thankfully, for those who do like the look of this drop, we shouldn’t have to wait too long. With the Set Phasers to Superdrop scheduled to launch this Monday, everything should be revealed very soon.
