Since the start of MagicCon Amsterdam, we have been getting absolutely bombarded with new card reveals. As if the main set spoilers for Reality Fracture and The Hobbit weren’t enough, we also got a glimpse at some upcoming Reality Fracture promos. Unfortunately, for Store Championship enthusiasts, the top promos this time around are rather mediocre.
Store Championship Promos
Interestingly, it appears that Wizards of the Coast accidentally leaked these promos themselves. Sadly, while these cards are interesting from a flavor perspective, value-wise, they’re complete duds.
Amusingly, the participation promo, Thought Scour, is actually the most widely played of the trio by quite a large margin. Played alongside Abhorrent Oculus in Modern and Tolarian Terror in Pauper, this card is even popular in graveyard-focused Commander decks. The downside is that this common cantrip is worth under $0.40, though this new promo variant could be worth a decent bit more.
Despite being much more exclusive, only being awarded to the top eight at Store Championship events, Mastermind’s Acquisition sees much less play. Only really found in Pioneer Lotus Field decks, this tutor can easily be picked up for around $2 on average. Realistically, this price doesn’t matter since these promos will be significantly scarcer, but it does feel like an odd choice.
While it might be the rarest Reality Fracture Store Championship promo, Jace Reawakened is arguably the worst. Not only does it sell for just $0.70, but it barely sees any play across formats. While it does see a smidgen of demand from Commander, this promo reprint really does feel like a dud. With this in mind, it’s no wonder MTG players aren’t happy about it.
Play Promos
Keeping the trend of low-value choices going, Wizards also revealed three Reality Fracture Play promos that can be earned at different events. Available at Magic Spotlight: Fracture events in Hartford and Beijing, the new Jace Beleren is another low-value dud. Available for just $0.60 on TCGplayer, it’s hard to call this promo exciting, but the foil variant, which is awarded to the top 128 players, could be quite valuable.
For those unable to travel out to these events, there are other opportunities to pick up promos at your local game store as well. Retro Frame Crystal Ball promos will be handed out at Commander events, while winners of Standard Showdown events will earn traditional foil Tragic Trajectory promos. Sadly, with both these cards selling for under $0.50, it’s hard to get excited about their potential value.
All Leylines’ Eve Promo
Curiously, the most expensive promo for Reality Fracture is the All Leylines’ Eve promo. This chaos draft-style event takes place between October 30th and November 5th and offers a unique twist on traditional draft gameplay. Each player has the luxury of starting the game with a Leyline of Anticipation promo in play, letting them play the whole game at instant speed.
From there, when the event concludes, each player then gets to take their promo home with them just for attending. As a Commander staple with a near $7 reprint value, this enchantment is a great gift for a sweet event.
