Even though Aetherdrift’s spoiler season is well on its way, we’re getting more than just cards from the new set. A series of competitive tournament reprints hosting bizarre artwork is also getting shown off. The next Store Championship promos have been announced, but all of the MTG community’s buzz is around this bizarre Karn Pro Tour Promo. Karn has truly been Liberated in his latest reprint. That said, the card choice and the artwork are incredibly strange this time around.
Karn, Completely Liberated

Yes, this is a real card. This happens to be the 2025 Pro Tour promo, appearing as a promotional card at the various MTG Pro Tour and World Championship events happening across the world. Notably, the top 32 players at each event will get a foil versions of this immaculate beast.
It’s clear that Kieran Yanner had a lot of fun drawing this Karn. The imagery immediately elevated Karn to a new level of meme status, completely overtaking the community by storm. While the imagery is legendary, the card choice is quite bizarre.
It’s rather common for MTG Pro Tour promos to be a bit out of touch. Last year’s promo, Jace, the Mind Sculptor was a major metagame contender in past years but has been lost in all the power creep from recent Modern sets.
Karn, Liberated falls under a similar boat. Tron returned with a strong fury during post-Modern Horizons 2 and 3’s metagames but is currently outscaled by the Temur Eldrazi Ramp strategy. That seems to be the more consistent deck according to recent results. Since Karn plays much better with Tron, its metagame share is down. That said, even when Tron was still seeing a lot of play, Karn was not a popular choice post-Modern Horizons 3 because the Eldrazi cards in the set were so much more efficient.
As a result, Karn, Liberated is only worth about $4, which is incredibly disappointing even compared to the recent Jace, the Mind Sculptor. That said, the rarity and artwork alone could make this one of the most sought-after Planeswalker reprints in MTG history.
A Long Line of Strange Treatments
Ultimately, this Pro Tour Planeswalker treatment has a lot of the same qualities going for it as previous ones. Despite the strange card choice and the even stranger artwork, this Karn is going to be quite expensive. Combine the strong player reaction to the “stupid sexy Karn” with extreme scarcity, and you’ve got a hit on your hands.
For reference, Jace, the Mind Sculptor’s Pro Tour variant is worth about $230 for its non-foil variant, which is much more common than its foil one. The foil variant is likely worth thousands. Wrenn and Six, the promo before this one, is worth about $200 as well. As a result, we would expect non-foil copies of stupid sexy Karn to be worth about the same, at the least.
Even though some players may not be a fan of Karn’s very visual vacation, it’s ultimately a blessing for Pro Tour players. Traveling to the Pro Tour, especially for players outside of the U.S., is no joke. Having expensive promos for every Pro Tour player can help offset costs associated with travel. It’s far from breaking even, but it’s better than nothing.
I hope that this wacky trend of crazy Pro Tour promos continues. It’s fun to see what MTG artists can do with Magic’s most iconic characters when their creativity is set free.
