MTG Players Discover Unannounced Spider-Man Product

Share

Despite looking like one of the most interesting sets in years, Edge of Eternities has been quickly pushed out of the spotlight. Thanks to a messy release weekend, Marvel’s Spider-Man ended up stealing the show. Admittedly, this wasn’t all for the right reasons, as the new pick-two Draft format has already raised concerns.

Despite these potential issues, matching the might of Marvel is no easy feat. Even as a smaller set, Marvel’s Spider-Man is bound to sell like hotcakes once released. Sure, this set might not have Commander decks like many MTG releases, but it still has some tricks up its sleeves. Alongside the new Welcome Decks, it appears MTG players have just discovered a new, currently unannounced Spider-Man product.

MTG Spider-Man Gift Bundle?

Yesterday, a new MTG Spider-Man product appeared to have popped up online. Spotted by Reddit user Pizzadelivery22, a full product lineup for the set showcased a unique Gift Bundle. While such a product is hardly new territory for Magic: The Gathering, its existence curiously hasn’t been confirmed just yet.

Considering Wizards of the Coast just had the full First Look for Marvel’s Spider-Man, this omission is rather surprising. Even though Gift Bundles are typically released around the holiday, it’s common for them to be announced alongside everything else. That said, Wizards could just be keeping it under wraps until the set’s official Debut event on August 29th.

While it’s currently unclear what Wizards is planning, this secrecy could have something to do with a potential promo card. As many MTG players pointed out on Reddit, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth did a similar thing. Should this trend continue, this Gift Bundle could contain a fixed Spider-Man promo, since he’s on the cover.

As much as this would be a very enticing way to market an MTG product, the LOTR promos weren’t Gift Bundle exclusive. Instead, the four fixed promos, including The One Ring, were available in the regular Bundle, too. So far, while we know the announced Marvel’s Spider-Man Bundle includes “1 Alternate-art promo card,” it’s unknown if this is fixed.

At the very least, even if this hypothetical Gift Bundle doesn’t include a new promo, it should have a unique Spindown die. Depending on how good this looks and how rare the product is, this could end up being quite valuable.

Right now, it makes a lot of sense that Wizards of the Coast would create a product like this. Gift Bundles have done well in the past, and it makes sense that people would want more opportunities to buy Spider-Man cards. That said, there’s no guarantee this product is actually real, as this might just be a cleverly constructed ruse.

Notably, in the Reddit post, Pizzadelivery22 doesn’t provide a source to back up their claims. In our extensive searching, we weren’t able to find anything online corroborating this product’s existence either. Potentially, this product lineup shot was only briefly available online before the mistake was realized and the image was taken down.

As much as this process tends to be standard practice for leaks, it hardly guarantees authenticity for this one. On top of that, something about the product shot just looks a little bit off. Unlike the rest of the rendered product assets, this Gift Bundle has an unusual sheen to the top surface.

Ultimately, there’s not enough information right now to confirm whether or not this newly discovered Spider-Man product actually exists. Thankfully, we shouldn’t have to wait too long for new information, at least since all the key Spider-Man dates have been revealed. This lets us know that the official Debut event for the set will be on August 29th, as mentioned earlier.
