Omens of Chaos Preorder Bonus Reveals MTG Secret Lair Teaser

Share

At long last, we’re now barreling headfirst toward the Secrets of Strixhaven spoiler season. Set to officially begin next week, Wizards is already teasing us with a handful of early spoilers. As if that wasn’t enough, a recent major leak revealed a ton of common cards from the set, spoiling the set’s mechanics.

Thanks to these early tastes, we already know there’s a ton to look forward to in Secrets of Strixhaven. On top of the main set, we’re getting five precons this time around, and the Mystical Archive is returning too. To top it all off, we’re even getting a brand new physical book, Strixhaven: Omens of Chaos, in early April.

With the book’s April 7th release date rapidly approaching, hype for Omens of Chaos is at an all-time high. Pushing this even further, a series of preorder bonuses for the book have just been announced. While these are exciting in their own right, it appears they also tease an upcoming Secret Lair drop!

Omens of Chaos Preorder Bonus

MTG Omens of Chaos Preorder Bonus

As stated on the website for Strixhaven: Omens of Chaos, a preorder bonus for the book is currently live. Running until the book’s release date, April 7th, fans are able to receive an exclusive art print and a digital wallpaper. To receive these, all you have to do is submit your proof of preorder via the website, and you’ll get your gubbins.

While this is a nice extra incentive to help the book’s launch succeed, this preorder bonus isn’t for everyone. For starters, it’s only available to residents in the US, and only while supplies last. Given the demand for this book is reportedly higher than expected, there’s a chance these preorder bonuses won’t last long.

As if these preorder rewards weren’t exciting enough already, the art used is said to come from Secret Lair. Presumably, this means we’ll be getting a Secret Lair drop in the near future to celebrate the book’s release. Potentially, this could be a dedicated Chaos Vault drop on the 7th, or perhaps a full Secret Lair superdrop alongside Secrets of Strixhaven.

Omens of Chaos Secret Lair?

Batwing Brume | Chance for Glory

For now, information about this upcoming Secret Lair is limited, but we do know some juicy details. Alongside getting two pieces of art from the upcoming drop, we also got the card names associated with them. At the very least, reprints for Batwing Brume and Chance for Glory will be coming soon.

From a finance perspective, only Batwing Brume is worth writing home about. Selling for between $5 and $8, depending on the printing, this card is a pretty powerful tool against aggressive decks. Capable of preventing damage and or turning it back on opponents, Batwing Brume sees consistent play in a variety of Commander archetypes.

Despite being a mythic, Chance for Glory is nowhere near as popular or expensive. Selling for just $1.69 on average, this combat trick is equal parts powerful and risky. While it can potentially protect your creatures and set up a second combat for lethal damage, you’ll lose the game on your end step.

While it is possible to avoid this rather severe downside, Chance for Glory isn’t hugely popular in Commander. As a result, it remains to be seen how popular this upcoming Secret Lair variant will be. Sadly, we’ll just have to wait for this Secret Lair to be released, whenever that might be.
