MTG Lorwyn Eclipsed Leak Reveals Five-Colored Commander Precon

Share

In a bizarre move, Magic: The Gathering players are in the middle of a preconstructed Commander deck drought. Both MTG Spider Man and Avatar: The Last Airbender shockingly had no Commander preconstructed decks for players to pick up. Considering how well received the Final Fantasy Commander decks were, this was a baffling decision.

Fortunately, it seems that the drought of Commander precons will finally come to an end in the new year. Two new Commander preconstructed decks were just leaked for Lorwyn Eclipsed. If these leaks are accurate, the new themes appear to be absolute bangers. The quality of the images isn’t the absolute best, which is fairly standard for MTG leaks, but you should still be able to see the details clearly.

As is the case with all leaks, there is a chance that this could be a hoax. If you’d rather wait for Lorwyn Eclipsed details to be revealed officially, consider this your spoiler warning. From here on out, we’ll talk about the revealed details as if they were real.

MTG Lorwyn: Eclipsed Preconstructed Commander Decks

An unexpected post on MTG Reddit suddenly revealed the packaging for two new preconstructed that may appear in Lorwyn Eclipsed. As is the case with all the Lorwyn Eclipsed leaks we’ve seen so far, both of these decks reference flavorful and powerful mechanics that appeared during the original Lorwyn block.

Of the two precons, the five-colored Elemental one is likely to turn a lot more heads. Not only are five-colored precons extremely beloved by the community, but acquiring a new five-colored Typal Commander for Elementals will assuredly be incredibly popular.

Coined Dance of the Elements, this Commander precon appears to be everything that Typal gamers want. Copying creatures is already absurdly popular in Commander, likely allowing powerhouses like Doubling Season to play well as upgrades to the strategy.

All of that said, considering that Elementals already have a five-colored Commander, this is a bit of an odd theme to chase. Horde of Notions, notably originally printed in Lorwyn, isn’t an incredibly powerful Commander by any means, but it does give five-colored Elementals a home. Considering that there seems to be a sacrifice theme here, Horde of Notions will likely play well with this precon. It could even be included in the 99. The image suggests that the new Commander for this deck could be a new take on Ashling, but that is pure speculation.

The Sleeper Pick

Despite the homerun that Dance of the Elements appears to be, players are actually much more excited about Blight Curse. -1/-1 counter themes are incredibly rare and, thanks to cards like Devoted Druid, as well as mechanics like Persist, finding ways to abuse them can easily lead to broken combos.

Powerful combo decks utilizing -1/-1 counters have constantly appeared across Magic. Yawgmoth combo, for example, competes in Legacy and Modern by utilizing Persist creatures combined with Yawgmoth, Thran Physician‘s sacrifice effect to draw your entire deck. Devoted Druid Combos can easily tap for infinite mana, and are common inclusions in more powerful Commander decks. Considering that Blight Curse promises “creature combos,” there’s a chance Wizards of the Coast leaned into this.

The -1/-1 counter theme has been spread across Jund for some time now, but the archetype has never had a good Commander to unite under. Fan-favorite cards like The Scorpion God, Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons, and Murderous Redcap can finally be played under one roof. Similar to World Shaper, there’s a very good chance that, once upgraded, Blight Curse will turn into a monster.

While none of this has been confirmed to be real, there’s a very good chance that we’ll know for sure soon. MagicCon Atlanta kicks off this weekend, which includes a first look at Lorwyn Eclipsed. While not confirmed, it’s common to see Commander precon packaging here, as well as some of the Commanders themselves. We’ll be sure to update any new details here, so be sure to watch this space.
