Yesterday, Wizards of the Coast dropped one hell of a ban announcement. Despite expectations, Wizards banned five cards, with three more being unbanned, shaking up multiple metagames. While this is always an exciting time, arguably, some of the fresh unbans may be a touch too strong, so Wizards may have to take action again soon.
Thankfully, in 2026, we Wizards has pre-announced when most of the bans will happen in 2026. That said, this set schedule isn’t even complete yet, and it doesn’t account for every format. To make matters worse, it now seems that this schedule contained an unfortunate error, which has resulted in one upcoming announcement date changing.
Delayed Due to a Typo

Sadly, delays are nothing new in the grand scheme of MTG. Typically, we’ll see them due to production or shipping issues, which have been frustratingly common recently. This time around, however, the next MTG banned and restricted announcement has seemingly been delayed due to a typo.
As part of yesterday’s ban announcement, Wizards confirmed the next B&R update would take place on June 30th. For those who remember when Wizards announced the B&R calendar for this year, that date is 27 days later than scheduled. Originally, the next bans were meant to take place on June 3rd; however, that was supposedly never actually the case.
During today’s WeeklyMTG livestream, it was revealed that the next bans were planned for June 30th, all along. This was confirmed by Carmen Klomparens, who stated that, essentially, Wizards just made a typo. “We initially typed it as June 3rd … It is June 30th, though. It is June 30th. I cannot stress this enough: June 30th.”
While this might be a bizarre reason for a delay, admittedly, this does make sense. June 3rd is only a couple of weeks away at this point, which feels like overkill. While it’s nice to have a lot of ban windows, the chance of something breaking in that time is unlikely.
Next MTG B&R Announcement: June 30th
Even if something does break out, like Cascade/Living End in Modern or Colorless Tron in Legacy, the actual ban window isn’t far away. At worst, we’ll only have to wait six weeks, as the next bans are, for clarity, on June 30th. Curiously, this date does seem to break tradition, as typically we expect bans announced on a Monday. Realistically, though, this little detail is hardly the end of the world, and shouldn’t affect things too much.
Ultimately, for now, we’re just going to have to wait and see what happens with the interim. Not only are metagames sure to evolve between now and then, but Marvel Super Heroes spoilers start on June 2nd. Depending on what this set brings, new bans may well be needed, after all.
