While it’s a little awkward, thanks to the leaks beforehand, we’re currently in the midst of the MNG TMNT spoiler season. Thankfully, even without any new rares or mythics to gawk at, Wizards still has plenty to show off. The recently revealed Turtle Power! precon, for instance, contained tons of exciting, never-before-seen cards.
As you’d expect from a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle-themed set, many of these new, unique cards are Mutants. While the upcoming set unsurprisingly contains tons of support for this creature type, it’s hardly the only set that cares about Mutants. The 2024 Fallout-themed Commander decks, for instance, had a fair few Mutant Typal-focused cards, which are now climbing in price.
MTG Jason Bright, Glowing Prophet

In any Mutant or Zombie Typal deck, Jason Bright, Glowing Prophet is a true value engine. Thanks to the density of anthems and lords within typal archetypes, card draw with Jason Bright is practically guaranteed. He can even facilitate this himself, both through buffing creatures and by sacrificing them as part of the ability cost.
Despite this powerful potential, Jason Bright, Glowing Prophet is far from a staple in MTG Commander. According to EDHREC, this card only appears in around 13,600 decks, most of which are The Wise Mothman lists. Considering Jason Bright was originally printed in the Mutant Menace precon, this play rate isn’t too surprising.
Thankfully, Jason Bright, Glowing Prophet has to escape his home precon to be played in Zombie Typal decks. Appearing in a fair few Wilhelt, Geralf, and Temmet decks, Jason Bright definitely has potential in this archetype. In particular, the synergy between Jason Bright and Geralf, the Fleshwright is fantastic, since Geralf both creates and buffs Zombies.
While not quite as efficient, the upcoming Heroes in a Half Shell plays into a similar space. Within a Mutant Typal deck, this WUBRG Commander can consistently buff your board while providing card draw. Adding Jason Bright to this deck provides even more card draw consistency, while offering evasion, too.
Despite this impressive synergy, Jason Bright, Glowing Prophet isn’t a staple within Heroes in a Half Shell decks. It’s still early days, but according to EDHREC, Jason Bright appears in only 91 of the 605 Heroes in a Half Shell decks. This might not seem like much, but speculative demand has still pushed Jason Bright’s price up.
The Spike

While Jason Bright, Glowing Prophet does see some play outside of the Mutant Menace precon, there’s not a huge amount of secondary market demand. Thanks to this, copies of Jason Bright, have long been pretty cheap. Back in late January, for example, near-mint non-foil copies of this card were going for just $0.25.
Thanks to just shy of 300 sales of Jason Bright in the past month, copies are now going for $0.90 on average. While this isn’t a colossal price spike, fresh near-mint non-foil listings are a good bit more expensive, starting at $1.36. This marks a 444% price spike so far; however, prices could easily continue to increase.
Unfortunately, anyone looking for a cheaper copy of Jason Bright, Glowing Prophet at the moment won’t have much luck. Outside of a singular damaged copy, the extended art variant of Jason Bright is now going for $2.59. The surge foil variants of Jason Bright are even more expensive, with prices starting at $11 and $12, depending on the variant.
Admittedly, while Jason Bright, Glowing Prophet has seen a decent spike, percentage-wise, it’s still a cheap MTG card. If anything, it’s still a budget card right now, with copies selling for $1.40, but it might not stay that way for long. Not only is supply fairly low, with only 40 near-mint default frame listings left, but the future is bright, too.
Better and Better
Given the supply of Jason Bright, Glowing Prophet has been dwindling pretty quickly; it feels like there’s a good chance this price spike will continue. Thanks to the density of Mutants in the TMNT set, this card can be quite a prolific value engine for blue decks. That being said, while it’s good now, it should only get better with time.
At the very least, the inevitable future X-Men Marvel MTG set is bound to include tons of new Mutants and Mutant support. In theory, Jason Bright, Glowing Prophet could be reskinned and reprinted in a future set like this, but that’s far from guaranteed. If this doesn’t happen, then demand for Jason Bright will only increase, pushing prices up and up.
Notably, even if Mutants don’t end up being a big thing in MTG going forward, Jason Bright is always a Zombie Typal card at worst. Considering this archetype gets new support fairly regularly, this card could easily maintain a fairly impressive price point. Whether or not that will happen, however, remains to be seen.
Ultimately, while both long and short-term prospects for Jason Bright, Glowing Prophet look bright, there’s no telling what the future holds. A reprint of this card could easily decimate its price point, or MTG players simply might not vibe with it. As always, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens in the coming weeks and months.
