Haughty Djinn has been a powerhouse in the Standard format for quite some time. Once the poster boy of the Mono Blue tempo decks, Haughty Djinn has remained fairly popular, even after that deck fell by the wayside. Right now, the card is a quintessential part of the Azorius Oculus strategies.
Haughty Djinn not only becomes a massive threat, but it can reduce the cost of your other spells. This has allowed the card to stand the test of time in Standard. As a result, the card is starting to get a bit more expensive.
Haughty Djinn
Haughty Djinn’s price over the last two months has seen a surprising increase. Worth just 50 cents back in August, Haughty Djinn now demands about $2.80 according to TCGplayer market averages. This isn’t a big price increase, especially when compared to other spikes that we routinely talk about. Considering that Haughty Djinn is just a Standard card, this becomes a lot more shocking. Sure, Haughty Djinn is going to see Commander play in spellslinger decks as well, but the card just got a Commander reprint in Outlaws of Thunder Junction. Despite this, the card is still going up.
Haughty Djinn really does not see a lot of play outside Standard, and even in Standard, the card is not a part of the top tier meta decks outside of Oculus builds. This does show up in some Prowess-related builds in Pioneer, but none of those decks are considered remotely competitive.
Even though Haughty Djinn’s price increase happened over a longer period of time, its unusual for a Standard only card to see a spike like this. If you want to pick up Haughty Djinn on the cheap, the card is due to rotate out of Standard next year.
