After weeks of spoilers, the Cats Are The Best MTG Secret Lair Superdrop finally goes for sale today. While a majority of this Secret Lair drop may not be compelling, there are some good deals to be had. With a few outstanding reprints, with some gorgeous cat-themed art on top, this superdrop will certainly have its fans.
Sadly, the same cannot be said for the Cats Are the Best Secret Lair promo. Depicting an extremely disturbing Food Token, this promo is equally as insulting as it is disgusting.
MTG Garfield Secret Lair Food Token

Rewarded to players who spend $199 or more in the Cats Are the Best Secret Lair drop, this Garfield food token may be some of the worst MTG nightmare fuel yet. Created by the same artist responsible for TMNT’s controversial Pizza Lands, many MTG players have been incredibly turned off by this promo.
In many players’ words, Gaboleps’ depiction of lasagna looks nothing like the real thing. Offering a meat pie with a bizarre Cheese Whiz-looking finish, the food itself is already disturbing. Throw in Garfield using it as a bed, and this is simply too much for many players.
While the artwork already has players divided, how you get this Food Token has made it even more controversial. In terms of reprint value, a Food Token has absolutely no value, making this the worst $199 sale promo we’ve ever seen. While some rarer Food Tokens do have some reprint value, like the $5 Krabby Patty token, this is still a major step down from past Secret Lair promos.
Considering this controversy, we can only hope that Wizards of the Coast doesn’t have tokens as paywalled Secret Lair promos in the future. These promos are difficult enough to get as-is, even when they were more valuable.
