With Commander’s slower, set-up-heavy nature, it’s extremely common for one player to get ahead of the rest. Because of this, running a way to flip the game against one opponent, like Fractured Identity, is absolutely paramount.

While Fractured Identity works wonders as a political tool, there are also a lot of ways to make it extremely unfair. Attack tax cards like Ghostly Prison can make attacking you difficult, while Goad effects like Bloodthirsty Blade skip the politics completely. If you don’t want to give your opponents any tokens, Crafty Cutpurse can steal them all, creating three token copies under your control.
While Fractured Identity will generally be used as removal, this sorcery can also gift cards that you have to your opponents. You can easily ruin the game with this, giving everyone a copy of cards like Descent into Avernus or Forced Fruition. To evoke maximum chaos, using Radiate or Radiant Performer with Fractured Identity turns the board state into a nightmare.
At its absolute nastiest, however, Fractured Identity effectively acts as a two-card death combo with all kinds of different cards. Gifting all of your opponents a Leveler, for example, will empty their libraries, while both Phage, the Untouchable or Transcendence will cause them to lose the damage directly. You can even lock the game by giving your opponents Moderation with a Possibility Storm or a Knowledge Pool in play.
Considering Fractured Identity can act as both removal and a win condition, it’s no wonder that this card shows up in 30,000 different Commander decks according to EDHREC. Even at this rate, however, Fractured Identity feels underrepresented, making its $1 price point a steal. At this price point, Fractured Identity feels like an incredible addition to any Azorius-colored Commander decks.
