While May 18th was a busy day in the world of MTG, things seem to keep crawling out of the woodwork. On top of bans and a Secret Lair disaster, we also have a new MTG Star Trek leak. While its legitimacy isn’t 100% confirmed, this leak definitely looks like the real deal.
MTG Captain Kirk, Boldly Going

Revealed on Reddit, Captain Kirk: Boldly Going confirms that MTG Star Trek will have at least one Commander precon. This is due to the TRC set code on the card in the bottom-right corner, and the 0085 collector’s number. This means that Captain Kirk: Boldly Going will be an additional Commander option within the precon, but not the face or secondary Commander.
Sadly, besides confirming Commander product in MTG Star Trek, Captain Kirk, Boldly Going is a bit difficult to assess right now. The massive +3/+3 Spacecraft Anthem is a great start, but part of this card’s effectiveness depends on how powerful Starship Enterprise will be.
Fortunately, even if the iconic Spacecraft ends up being nothing to write home about, this is still the best Spacecraft Commander that we’ve ever seen for MTG. Thanks to his easily underratable ability, Kirk will make sure you never miss a land drop, which can be quite valuable in Bracket 3 Commander. Pair the card with Landfall payoffs that can help Station Spacecraft, and this Captain’s game plan seems quite effective.
Sadly, before we even know what Starship Enterprise does, it appears that players already have some issues with Captain Kirk, Boldly Going. With many, including MTG Designer Mark Rosewater, associating Kirk with Boros, his Bant color identity here is a bit of a flavor fail. Thankfully, there’s a good chance that Captain Kirk will also get a card in the main set, but that’s technically not confirmed right now.
Unfortunately, if you’re excited to try Captain Kirk, Boldy Going for yourself, the card won’t be hitting shelves for quite some time. Scheduled to release on November 20th, 2026, we still have five months and three sets before MTG Star Trek hits shelves.
