MTG Black Panther Combo Lets You Make Infinite Mana and Draw Your Deck

Share

Last week, five cool MTG X Marvel Secret Lairs were introduced. These products, in addition to containing some cool alternate art reprints, each came with one mechanically unique Superhero. From Iron Man to Captain America, these cards are intriguing and flavorful.

On top of that, some of them are quite strong. We recently discussed Iron Man, Titan of Innovation’s ability to set up infinite combos. Now, we’re going to follow up with a cool infinite combo players discovered revolving around one of the other Superheroes. This time, the card in question is Black Panther, Wakandan King.

Black Panther is an efficient legend for Commander that lets you distribute counters among your lands and move those counters to creatures at will. With the right cards alongside it, too, you can easily generate infinite mana! Winning from there should be trivial. First, though, we need to look at how the combo works.

Black Panther Broodscale Combo

Basking Broodscale
  • Mana Value: 1G
  • Rarity: Common
  • Stats: 2/2
  • MTG Sets: Modern Horizons 3
  • Card Text: Devoid (This card has no color.) 1G: Adapt 1. (If this creature has no +1/+1 counters on it, put a +1/+1 counter on it.) Whenever one or more +1/+1 counters are put on Basking Broodscale, you may create a 0/1 colorless Eldrazi Spawn creature token with “Sacrifice this creature: Add colorless.”

The combo in question revolves around three key cards. The first, of course, is Black Panther, Wakandan King. The second is Basking Broodscale. Basking Broodscale has made a name for itself as a combo piece in Pauper alongside Sadistic Glee, so seeing it be used as a crucial part of yet another combo isn’t too surprising.

Finally, you need access to Ashaya, Soul of the Wild. As we will see, Ashaya’s ability to make all of your creatures also lands is essential in allowing you to go infinite.

Once you have all three cards in play, you can start the combo by Adapting Basking Broodscale. Doing so will net you a 0/1 Eldrazi Spawn token. When this token enters, Black Panther will trigger, allowing you to put a +1/+1 counter on one of your lands.

Well, thanks to Ashaya, you can actually put that +1/+1 counter right on Basking Broodscale. This will once again net you an Eldrazi Spawn, triggering Black Panther. So, you can repeat this process over and over to generate infinite Eldrazi Spawn.

Closing the Game

Black Panther, Wakandan King
  • Mana Value: GW
  • Rarity: Mythic Rare
  • Stats: 2/2
  • Card Text: First strike. Survey the Realm– Whenever Black Panther or another creature you control enters, put a +1/+1 counter on target land you control. Mine Vibranium– 3: Move all +1/+1 counters from target land you control onto target creature. If one or more +1/+1 counters are moved this way, you gain that much life and draw a card.

Obviously, a bunch of 0/1 Eldrazi Spawn won’t end the game by themselves. Luckily, Black Panther makes winning here trivial.

The card’s Mine Vibranium ability allows you to move all +1/+1 counters from one of your lands onto a creature for three mana. With infinite Eldrazi Spawn, you also have infinite mana. So, you can repeatedly move the +1/+1 counters from Basking Broodscale to Black Panther and then back to Basking Broodscale. Each time you do, you gain a boatload of life and draw a card.

This means you’ll get to draw your deck. As long as you have a win condition like Walking Ballista that ends the game with infinite mana somewhere in your deck, you’re good to go!

What’s nice about this combo is that both Basking Broodscale and Ashaya are legal in a Black Panther Commander deck, as they only require green mana to cast. If you’re a fan of wonky EDH combos, Black Panther has you covered.
