As all players know, Magic: The Gathering is an extremely expensive game, and recent developments have only made things worse. While Universes Beyond has brought a lot of new players into Magic, it’s also made products even more expensive. Sets like Final Fantasy and Avatar: The Last Airbender add further premiums onto the usual MTG product, making things more expensive than ever before.
Fortunately, with Black Friday on the horizon, players have an opportunity to make their money go a little further. Whether you’re after a Commander Precon for cheap or some new card game accessories, Black Friday should help your MTG budget go just a little bit further.
Best Black Friday MTG Commander Deals

While there are some card-related deals being advertised for Black Friday, a lot of the booster boxes on offer aren’t actually deals. That said, there are some interesting discounts available for beginner and veteran Commander players.
For example, a full collection of Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander decks is currently on offer for $150. The $15-$20 discount essentially means you’ll be grabbing all five Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander decks for $30 each, which saves about $40 if you plan on buying all the decks separately. Throw in a reprint value of $301.36 between all the decks, and you’ve got a serious deal on your hands so long as you’re interested in all five Commander decks.
If you’re looking for just one Commander deck, the Draconic Destruction Starter Commander deck is quite cheap for Black Friday. Engineered to get new players into Commander, Draconic Destruction offers a Gruul Dragons Commander deck right out of the box for anyone to play for just $25 on Amazon, $15 cheaper than usual. Getting any MTG deck for this price is a massive challenge, making this one of the best and most affordable entries into Commander that the game has seen in a long time. If you’d rather play something other than Dragons, the Rakdos Chaos Incarnate Starter Commander deck is also relatively cheap, offering another Commander option for just $25.
Best MTG Black Friday Apparel Deals

Most of the decent deals that MTG players will be able to find this Black Friday won’t be for actual MTG cards, but instead for ways to protect and store them. It doesn’t take much for a collection of Commander decks to become a challenge to organize, but there are some solutions here to consider.
For those of us out there with a few too many Commander decks to count, some larger deck box options are going on sale for Black Friday. This particular example offers the best price among competitors and provides enough space to store 32 Commander decks (or 3200 cards) for $26.40. This option is, importantly, a portable design, allowing you to take all of your Commander decks to a Friday Night Magic event without resorting to multiple deck boxes.
If you’re looking for something with a bit more rapport in the MTG community, The Academic is one of the best deck boxes available on the market. Offering a deckbox and multiple trays for tokens and even smaller decks, The Academic, usually worth about $55, is currently on sale for just $40. If you have a prized possession deck that needs lots of tokens and dice that you want stored away with protection that the community trusts, this is the box for you.
Odds and Ends
While a majority of the decent MTG Black Friday deals are found in Commander Precons and card accessories, there are additional items available that players could save money on. If you’re interested in dice, for example, an extremely cheap MTG-themed 48-piece packet of dice is available for just $4. Offering Keywords and proper +1/+1 counter tracking, so long as you don’t mind a misspelled Overload Keyword, these seem to be far cheaper than everything else on the market.
Otherwise, TCGplayer is offering a 10% cashback event on everything in store between November 28th and December 1st. Whether you’re after Singles, Boxes, or even the new Final Fantasy Holiday Bundle releasing this weekend.
Either way, if you’re looking to buy MTG on a budget, now is the time.
