The official release of Bloomburrow is now just over a week away. This set with tons of adorable critters looks to be a slam dunk. For fans of unique typal strategies in Commander and Constructed, Bloomburrow is certainly a breath of fresh air.
Recently, we went over what we believe to be the best cards in the set overall. Don’t let these small creatures fool you; there are still some cool cards worth building around in this set. Today, we’re going to focus on the strongest cards in Bloomburrow for Limited gameplay.
This is definitely a step down in power level from MH3, which should be a refreshing change. Nonetheless, if you’re planning on heading out to your local Prerelease event this weekend, make sure to keep an eye out for any of these standout cards. Here are the top five MTG best Bloomburrow Limited bombs.
#5 | Mabel, Heir to Cragflame
- Mana Value: 1RW
- Rarity: Rare
- Stats: 3/3
- Text: Other Mice you control get +1/+1. When Mabel, Heir to Cragflame enters, create Cragflame, a legendary colorless Equipment artifact token with “Equipped creature gets +1/+1 and has vigilance, trample, and haste” and equip 2.
Coming in at number five, we have Mabel, Heir to Cragflame. Mabel is a rather menacing Mouse that provides a lot of value for only three mana. There are plenty of other Mice in the set that get rewarded by Mabel’s buff, especially in Boros. As a three-mana 3/3 that pumps other Mice, Mabel would already be decent in Limited.
What pushes Mabel forward into our rankings is the fact that the Equipment token it makes when it enters is actually quite good. Equipment, in general, is often a bit of an afterthought for Limited gameplay since they typically don’t add board presence on their own. With Mabel, you get the Equipment essentially for free.
The Equip cost is small and makes any of your creatures into a very scary threat once attached. By granting Haste, the Cragflame Equipment makes all of your topdecked creatures in the late game much scarier. Mabel is awesome and is a card I hope not to face down on turn three very often.

#4 | Innkeeper’s Talent
- Mana Value: 1G
- Rarity: Rare
- Text: (Gain the next level as a sorcery to add its ability). At the beginning of combat on your turn, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control. Level 2: G: Permanents you control with counter on them have ward 1. Level 3: 3G: If you would put one or more counters on a permanent or player, put twice that many of each of those kinds of counter on that permanent or player instead.
Next up, we have Innkeeper’s Talent. Now, it may seem a bit strange to see a card from the Talent cycle this high, considering that most of them are pretty weak. However, as Limited aficionado, Bryan Hohns points out, the green uncommon and rare Talents are in a class by themselves.
Being able to distribute +1/+1 counters on your creatures every turn cycle, including the turn you play Innkeeper’s Talent, is a super underrated ability. For reference, Luminarch Aspirant filled a similar role in Zendikar Rising Draft and was incredibly powerful. In fact, according to 17lands.com which tracks tons of user data from MTG Arena Drafts, Luminarch Aspirant had the highest win rate of any card in the whole set when maindecked in Premier Draft!
Innkeeper’s Talent has the added bonus of typically being harder to remove since it’s not a creature. On top of that, you can invest mana later in the game to Level it up and start putting extra counters on your threats. Innkeeper’s Talent simply asks very little of you. As long as you’re playing green and have creatures in your deck, just put this card in your deck and reap the rewards.

#3 | Kastral, the Windcrested
- Mana Value: 3WU
- Rarity: Rare
- Stats: 4/5
- Text: Flying. Whenever one or more Birds you control deal combat damage to a player, choose one- You may put a Bird creature card from your hand or graveyard onto the battlefield with a finality counter on it, put a +1/+1 counter on each Bird you control, or draw a card.
Kastral is a big Flier that this time rewards you for playing other Birds. If you have other Bird creatures already in play when you slam Kastral, assuming you can connect in combat with one of your evasive threats, you get value out of Kastral immediately.
Of course, even if Kastral is the only Bird you have in play, it demands an immediate answer from the opponent. Your opponent will be hard-pressed to be able to match up in combat profitably with your 4/5 Flier. All three abilities on Kastral can be highly impactful at various points in the game, and you get the choice.
Kastral isn’t the same level of bomb as cards like Dream Trawler in the past, since it isn’t quite as good when you’re behind on board and doesn’t protect itself. Nonetheless, Kastral offers a lot if the opponent can’t kill it and will take over the game if unimpeded.

#2 | Zoraline, Cosmos Caller
- Mana Value: 1WB
- Rarity: Rare
- Stats: 3/3
- Text: Flying, vigilance. Whenever a Bat you control attacks, you gain 1 life. Whenever Zoraline enters or attacks, you may pay WB and 2 life. When you do, return target nonland permanent card with mana value 3 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield with a finality counter on it.
Zoraline is absolutely awesome at every stage of the game. On turn three, you get a threat that is tough to block and keeps your life total high. If you can start attacking with it, you get the opportunity to bring back other creatures that previously died in combat. Your opponent better remove this on the spot, otherwise they’re in for a world of trouble.
Yet, in an attrition war, you can always wait to play Zoraline until you have five mana at the ready. Then, you get guaranteed value out of Zoraline’s enters-the-battlefield trigger, letting you pull ahead on resources and board presence if the opponent has an answer. Zoraline is amazing, and you can’t do much better.

#1 | Maha, Its Feathers Night
- Mana Value: 3BB
- Rarity: Mythic Rare
- Stats: 6/5
- Text: Flying, trample. Ward- Discard a card. Creatures your opponent control have base toughness 1.
Last but certainly not least, we have Maha, Its Feathers Night. We have mentioned how strong Maha is alongside cards like Tectonic Hazard that enable you to wipe away all of your opponent’s creatures at once. However, even in a Limited environment, this card is a doozy.
It’s huge, forces the opponent to discard a card to kill it with spot removal, and completely warps combat in your favor if it sticks around. There are even some cards in the set like Downwind Ambusher that combo nicely with Maha.
This card should undoubtedly be one of the chase cards that players most want to open during Prerelease events. We welcome Bloomburrow’s release with open arms and wish everyone good luck at their local game stores this weekend!
