At long last, it seems Magic: The Gathering’s endless spoiler season has come to a brief stop. Now that Through the Omenpaths was revealed in its entirety on Monday, we’ve got a two-week window until Spider Man Prereleases start. Considering the confusion that comes from having two almost identical sets to digest, this quiet period should be a godsend.
For better or worse, this brief break from spoilers isn’t going to last long. On top of Spider Man Prerelease events kicking off on the 26th, that’s also when MagicCon: Atlanta kicks off. As usual, this MagicCon starts with a blockbuster first day that’s headlined by a new Preview Panel. According to MTG’s Head Designer, Mark Rosewater, this isn’t one you’ll want to miss.

Unsurprisingly, between Spider Man, Through the Omenpaths, and changes to the ban schedule, Wizards hasn’t made a huge fuss about the Preview Panel. Yet, as Mark Rosewater says, it was recently unveiled on the MagicCon: Amsterdam website. As expected, this confirms the event will take place on September 26th at 1:45 PM local time (EDT).
Notably, while Wizards of the Coast doesn’t usually livestream these panels, live coverage is still available. MTG players in attendance are often quick to upload reveals to Reddit, and Wizards also posts news to BlueSky and Twitter as it happens. As always, we’ll also cover all the new sets and reveals, so just watch this space.
From the sounds of things, there will definitely be a lot going on during this Preview Panel. As Mark Rosewater alluded to, the big highlight of this event will be the debut of the 2026 MTG release schedule. While this is all very exciting, according to the panel’s description, not everything will be revealed.
Instead, according to Wizards, we’ll see the “(nearly) full 2026 calendar—including some set announcements you won’t want to miss.” Potentially, this may mean that Wizards only reveals codenames for a couple of sets, as we’ve seen previously. Alternatively, Wizards might just ignore the existence of these sets entirely, keeping us guessing until later in the year.
At the very least, even if everything isn’t confirmed, we can still expect to get six Standard-legal sets in 2026. Three of these will be in-universe sets, while three will be Universes Beyond sets. So far, we only know the names for the first two in-universe sets, so Wizards definitely has plenty to reveal. There may even be a not-so-secret seventh 2026 set being announced at this event, too.
MTG Lorwyn Eclipsed First Look
Even without this technically hypothetical seventh set, there’s bound to be tons of reveals on the 26th. New crossovers will likely be confirmed, and we’ll get a clearer picture of where the current MTG story arc is going. As if all that weren’t enough, Wizards has some spoilers up their sleeves too.
It might not be released until January 23rd, 2026, but according to the Preview Panel blurb, this event will be the First Look for Lorwyn Eclipsed. While early, if it’s anything like past First Look events, we’ll soon get to see the first Lorwyn Eclipsed spoilers. Even if Wizards only reveals a half dozen cards or so, these spoilers are bound to be worth looking forward to.
To say that Lorwyn Eclipsed has been a long time coming would be putting it lightly. The original Lorwyn debuted 18 years ago, and we haven’t been back to the plane properly since. In that time, the closest we’ve gotten is new Through the Omenpaths cards like the reprint of Reprieve.
Beyond just being a long wait, Lorwyn has grown to become one of the most beloved planes in Magic. Thanks to this, many MTG players can’t wait to get a look at this set, especially following its delay to early 2026. Hopefully, when this First Look happens next week, it shouldn’t disappoint those who have been waiting for so long.
