The Most Expensive MTG Cards of 2025

Share

There’s no denying that 2025 has been one hell of a year for Magic: The Gathering. While there were only seven major set releases, this was still the year that Universes Beyond became Standard legal. As if this wasn’t already impactful enough, the set to kick off this change, MTG Final Fantasy, absolutely obliterated sales records.

Unsurprisingly, thanks to the obscene demand for this crossover, many of the set’s MTG cards are insanely expensive. This set, in fact, is singlehandedly responsible for three of the most expensive MTG cards to be released in 2025. For better or worse, these are hardly the only cards released this year.

The Soul Stone | The Most Expensive Default Frame MTG Card of 2025

The Soul Stone | Most Expensive 2025 MTG Cards

Price: $58

It’s indicative of the trend of Commander-based designs that the most expensive Standard legal MTG card from 2025 barely gets played in the format. Released as part of MTG Spider-Man, Wizards went all out with this Headliner card, creating multiple variants, some of which are obscenely rare.

While it’s not serialized, the Cosmic Foil Soul Stone is definitely the rarest and most expensive of the bunch. Selling for around $35,000 on average, this variant is undeniably expensive, but thankfully, regular copies are significantly cheaper. If you just want a default frame non-foil near-mint copy of The Soul Stone, you’ll only have to spend $58.

As for the card itself, The Soul Stone is a monster of a value engine that’s, at worst, always useful. Even just as a black-focused mana rock for two, this card is worth including within the 99 of mana Commander decks. Factor in the Harness/∞ ability on top of this, and it’s no wonder this card is so expensive.

Jin Sakai, Ghost of Tsushima | The Most Expensive Secret Lair MTG Card of 2025

Jin Sakai, Ghost of Tsushima | Most Expensive 2025 MTG Cards

Price: $69

While Jin Sakai, Ghost of Tsushima is easily one of the best Commanders printed in 2025, he shouldn’t be this expensive. Realistically, even while great in both Ninja Typal and Voltron decks, $69 for this MTG card is wild. Sadly, this high price point is largely due to the card’s rarity from being a Secret Lair card.

Like many Secret Lair drops this year, the MTG x PlayStation Ghost of Tsushima drop sold out exceptionally quickly. Whether it was due to overwhelming demand or underprinted supply, the result was the same. Many MTG players weren’t able to purchase this Secret Lair drop officially, turning them toward the secondary market.

Due to this steady demand, players now have no choice but to spend huge money on copies of Jin Sakai, Ghost of Tsushima. Thankfully, it does help that Jin Sakai is at least seriously powerful, but still, it’s hardly an ideal situation. Hopefully, a future reprint will bring this card’s price down significantly, but there’s sadly no guarantee of that.

Chrome Mox | The Most Expensive Play Booster MTG Card of 2025

Chrome Mox | Most Expensive 2025 MTG Cards

Price: $115

Thanks to multiformat staples like Bristly Bill, Spine Sower, Quantum Riddler, and Badgermole Cub, there’s no shortage of expensive cards in Play Boosters. As good as these cards are, however, there are still a few that stand head and shoulders above the rest. Back in Aetherdrift, for example, it was technically possible to find a Chrome Mox in a Play Booster.

Selling for around $115 on average, this Special Guests card is one hell of a pull. Considering this card is a staple in Vintage, Legacy, and Commander, this insanely high price tag is definitely deserved. After all, Chrome Mox is a stellar piece of fast mana that can effortlessly double up as fixing.

Even after being designated a Game Changer for Commander in February, the popularity of Chrome Mox hasn’t wavered. The same is true of the card’s price, which has steadily been climbing since its February release date.

Ifrit (Fury) | The Most Expensive Bonus Sheet MTG Card of 2025

Ifrit | Most Expensive 2025 MTG Cards

Price: $490

Thanks to having the perfect storm of scarcity, Ifrit, or rather Fury, is the most expensive Secret Liar bonus card from 2025. Not only was this card one of the rare bonus card pulls from the Final Fantasy Secret Lairs, but these drops sold out almost instantly. Absolutely shattering past records, it only took 35 minutes for things to sell out.

Much like Jin Sakai, it’s unclear if underprinting or overwhelming demand was the problem leading to record-breaking sales. Whatever the cause, the result is that the Secret Lair cards and accompanying bonus cards are insanely expensive. Copies of Iftrit, in particular, are worth around $490 on TCGplayer.

Alongside Ifrit, all of the other Final Fantasy Secret Lair bonus cards are, unsurprisingly, stupidly expensive too. Yojimbo (Solutude), for instance, sells for around $444 on TCGplayer. Even the cheapest out of the bunch, Magus Sisters (Endurance), sells for $275. Outside of this cycle, Smothering Tithe is the next most expensive bonus card from 2025, selling for $431.

Tifa Lockhart | The Most Expensive Promo MTG Card of 2025

Tifa Lockheart | Most Expensive 2025 MTG Cards

Price: $1,450

Thankfully for budget-conscious players, Tifa Lockhart is, typically, not a very expensive MTG card. Default Frame versions of this card will only set you back $1.49 on average, which is good news for Standard players. Currently, Tifa is a staple within the format’s Mono Green Landfall decks, as well as being rather popular in Commander.

If you really want to bling out your Tifa-centric or Landfall Commander deck, there is an ultra-premium Tifa Lockhart available. Distributed as a promo at Pro Tour Qualifier during MagicCon: Las Vegas, incredibly few copies of this card exist. Non-foil copies of this promo typically sell for around $1450, almost 1000 times more expensive than the base card.

If you really want to splash the cash, foil copies of this Tifa Lockhart promo are even rarer and significantly more expensive. Listings for this ultra chose promo start at around $4500, but most listings are $5000+. Given the collectible appeal of this Final Fantasy crossover card, there’s a non-zero chance this price point could climb over time.

Traveling Chocobo | The Most Expensive MTG Card of 2025

Traveling Chocobo | Most Expensive 2025 MTG Cards

Price: $60,000

From the moment it was revealed, it was a given that Traveling Chocobo would be the most expensive MTG card in 2025. This is thanks to the card’s ultra chase serialized variant, which sent collectors into a frenzy. While it’s no One-of-One Ring, there are only 77 serialized copies of this card in existence, making it obscenely rare.

Beyond just being rare, this Golden Traveling Chocobo was naturally collectible, thanks to its connection to the franchise. In Final Fantasy VII’s breeding quest, the Golden Chocobo is the cream of the crop, so it’s the perfect collectible for that game’s fans. That said, getting a copy of this card isn’t exactly easy, as prices start at $55,000, with most selling for $60,000+.

Thankfully, for those who purchase this obscenely expensive card, Traveling Chocobo is incredibly powerful. Allowing you to cast lands and Birds off the top of your library, this card is a staple in Landfall strategies. Both in Standard’s Landfall deck and in Commander, too, this card is a lot more than a cute face.
