Modern Horizons 3 is almost upon us, and community excitement is building to fever pitch. Despite, or perhaps because of, the huge leaks, players are keen to start cracking packs and building with the new cards within. But just what will be waiting within each Modern Horizons 3 Booster? That can be a complex question given the state of current Magic products, but fear not. We’ll walk you through all you need to know below!

What’s In Play Boosters?
Before we get started, we should clarify what types of Booster will be available for Modern Horizons 3. There’s been a lot of experimentation with that in recent years, with the likes of Set, Draft, Play, Collector, and Jumpstart Boosters phasing in and out with each new set. Wizards seems to have settled on a simple model of just Play and Collector Boosters for the moment, however. This remains the case for Modern Horizons 3.
Let’s look at Play Boosters first. These are the standard packs for each set, intended for regular players or those who want to Draft. The exact composition of these packs for Modern Horizon 3 is yet to be revealed. Some early info on the set has been revealed, however, and we can look at past Play Boosters to make fairly accurate predictions based on their contents. To this end, here’s what you can expect in each Modern Horizons 3 Play booster:
- 7 Common cards. 1 may be a card from The List for Modern Horizons 3.
- 3 Uncommon cards.
- 1 Rare or Mythic Rare card.
- 1 Wildcard, a card of any rarity/treatment.
- 1 Foil Wildcard.
- 1 Basic Land card. Could be a Full-Art Eldrazi land.
- 1 Token/Art card.
This is a rough breakdown, but it doesn’t take into account the different card frames offered by Modern Horizons 3. There are a lot of these to cover, including Borderless, Extended Art, Retro Frame, Profile, and Frame Break cards. Other than Extended Art, you can find all of these in the Wildcard slot in Play Boosters. There are a lot of Collector Booster-exclusive foil treatments, however, which we’ll get to later.

What’s In Collector Boosters?
Now let’s look at Collector Boosters. These are the high-end, premium options, and are much more expensive than Play Boosters. That higher price tag gets you a lot though, including multiple guaranteed foils, and guaranteed slots for each of the special card frames in a set. As above, the exact contents of Modern Horizons 3 Collector Boosters are yet to be confirmed. These, then, are predictions based on other recent Collector Boosters:
- 4 Foil Common cards.
- 2 Foil Uncommon cards.
- 2 Foil Retro Frame Common/Uncommon cards.
- 2 Retro Frame Common/Uncommon cards.
- 1 Foil Etched Rare/Mythic rare card.
- 1 Foil Alternate Frame Rare/Mythic Rare card.
- 1 Alternate Frame Rare/Mythic Rare card.
- 1 Extended Art Rare card.
- 1 Foil Etched Basic land.
- 1 Foil Etched Token card.
In addition to featuring all of the Alternate Frames available in Play Boosters, Collector Boosters get a few goodies of their own. You can open Extended Art cards exclusively in these packs. In addition, there are multiple foil treatments exclusive to Collector Boosters. Foil Etched and Textured Foil cards can only be found here, for example.
To reiterate, these are purely predictions, and may well differ in the final product. We’ll update this article as soon as further official information is available!
