At long last, Tarkir: Dragonstorm launched on MTG Arena earlier this week. Thanks to a new update model, this release appears to be going smoothly so far. Unlike some past launches, we’ve not had any game-breaking bugs or extended downtime, at least. Unfortunately, while this is a major improvement, it seems not everyone is happy about Tarkir: Dragonstorm’s release.
Unfortunately, it seems that some cards are missing from the main release of Tarkir: Dragonstorm. In total, ten cards just aren’t craftable or useable on MTG Arena at the moment, which is definitely annoying. As if the fact that these cards aren’t playable is enough, they’re currently visible in game, taunting and frustrating players.
So Close, Yet So Far
Now that Tarkir: Dragonstorm is here, there’s no shortage of exciting cards to craft. The set has only been available digitally for a few days, but already, multiple cards are making competitive waves. Even if we’ve not seen a new archetype emerge, there are still plenty of exciting upgrades to spend wildcards on.
Outside of the competitive scene, Tarkir: Dragonstorm also has a lot for casual players to enjoy. On paper, the set has five preconstructed Commander decks, and MTG Arena is getting in on the action. As usual, each of the new main and secondary Commander cards is coming to Arena. The only problem is that, for Tarkir: Dragonstorm, these cards aren’t ready yet.
Right now, there is no way to craft any of the ten new Commander cards from Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander on Arena. As you can see above, when viewing any of these cards, a message of “This card cannot be crafted using Wildcards.” Unsurprisingly, this quickly left many players scratching their heads, wondering if there was a secret method of unlocking these cards.
For better or worse, there’s no special trick that MTG Arena players are missing here. The Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander cards are simply just not ready on Arena at the moment. Wizards of the Coast confirmed this confusing detail in the most recent weekly MTG Arena Announcements post.
Within this announcement, Wizards confirmed that the “ten commanders from Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander will be coming to MTG Arena alongside Alchemy: Tarkir.” This means we’ve still got a little bit of a wait before these cards are properly playable. Thankfully, this wait shouldn’t be too too long, at least.
When Will They Release?
Currently, Wizards of the Coast has yet to officially announce the release date for Alchemy: Tarkir. That being said, we can pretty accurately predict when this release will happen based on past trends. Usually, each Alchemy set launches three weeks after the main set hits MTG Arena.
This means that Alchemy: Tarkir should release on April 29th if this trend continues. Technically, there’s no guarantee this will happen, as Wizards can always move dates around. Since the Final Fantasy spoiler season isn’t expected to start until May 20th, however, it’s little reason Wizards would change things.
As usual, Alchemy: Tarkir should include around 30 brand-new, digital-exclusive cards. While these are often exciting for casual and competitive players alike, they may have their thunder stolen this time around. After all, once Alchemy: Tarkir is released, the ten Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander cards will be available too.
When these cards are finally available, players should simply be able to craft them using wildcards as usual. There’s a chance these cards may also be found within store packs and Play Boosters, but this is unconfirmed. Ultimately, we’re just going to have to wait for more information, but that shouldn’t be far away.
Usually, Alchemy spoilers start arriving in the week before the Alchemy set releases on Arena. With this in mind, we can look forward to April 21st since we should get more information then. Until then, thankfully, Tarkir: Dragonstorm still has plenty of exciting Commanders that should be plenty of fun in Brawl.
